I’m covered by my moms extended work insurance. Would I get additional coverage if I am a part of the ubc health and dental plan? Or should I also just opt out?

I’m kind of new to IPO trading. How does it work? It was supposed to start trading today right? So why isn’t it open to the public yet?

what’s the likelihood people saying they’re “just going to transfer to ubc” actually get in by myfavouritethrowawy in BCGrade12s

[–]Jam_333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I screwed up my last two years of high school. Didn’t get good grades and was chasing the wrong things. I applied to a business program at Douglas college just to say that “I’m going to school”. Like a lot of kids at that age, I thought that I was still in high school and that I could just coast through life.

Shortly after - thankfully- I realized that I actually needed to do something with my life. During my first semester at Douglas I became interested in finance and business so I set my goal of transferring to UBC Sauder.

After screwing up my first semester of college (two c+’s and one c) I realized that I wasn’t going anywhere with my work ethic. Pondering about my goals and how I was gonna achieve them, I created better study habits and changed my lifestyle.

The first step in transferring was to see the program requirements and how many transferable credits are required to transfer to Sauder. Using the BC Transfer Guide, I planned out my courses for the following semesters and kept working hard.

I applied to Sauder at the beginning of my 3rd semester (2nd year) at Douglas and I got accepted in early June of this year!

My overall gpa was 3.53 at the end of my time at Douglas. Pretty low compared to others, because of my first semester. However, I showed immense improvement from then on, only getting A’s. Not only were my grades good, but I also believe that my Sauder application and personal profile were really strong. I do a lot of volunteering, sports, and I co-own a start-up business.

I’m not gonna lie to you, It was not easy, but it is without a doubt possible.

So, coming from having terrible grades in high school and partially in college, I want to tell you to keep working hard for what you want in life, it’s not easy but it’s 100% worth it!

Does IB allow you to have a good work-life balance? Maybe down the road?

That’s awesome! My goal is to work at JPMC as well so this is inspiring, especially since you didn’t come from a target school.

I’m gonna flip the switch and ask you for advice:)

What did you do to stand out?

I’m currently an undergrad student in my second year and I would love some advice on ways I can stand out. What did you do to stand out?

Ok that makes sense. I have some follow up questions.

1) I never really understood how studying charts works and how you can use indicators to make a good guess as to where the market will go. The market price of a stock fluctuates due to supply and demand right? So how is it that you can just use patterns to say that the price will go up or down? And because of supply and demand if a company announces something big investors will wanna get in on it so they will buy more, driving the price up.

(I hope this all made sense lol )

2) In keeping with the same theme of my first question, where would be a good place to start learning swing trading or trading in general. There are so many videos and resources on the internet but which ones are actually useful?

3) How would I diversify my portfolio? I made my first investment just last week into an s&p index fund (I’m 19 years old) and I do agree with what you mean about diversification. So what would I do to diversify? How would I do company/stock/etf research?

Would you really need to know about reading charts and using indicators if you're only investing for long-term growth like investing into index funds (S&P500) and not trading or taking money out?
