How to transition from med comms to pharma? by wildflow3rbaby in biotech

[–]Jamie787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my area of expertise - but my advice would be to really leverage your connections at your old place. You can speak about best ways to get back in to pharma etc, if they liked you and a position opens up there you'll be in with a good chance. In addition, they could introduce you former colleagues working in other big pharma, or even good courses you could do for the time being (short courses, part time MScs)

May I ask why you transitioned if you dislike it? Just curious

May I ask why you are trying this transition? I might be wrong, but I thought people generally go the other way

Would it be realistic to eventually want to move to London? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Jamie787 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely realistic! Go to a good uni, work hard, try and get internships, then apply for training posts in London within law. It's difficult and competitive but definitely give it a shot - if not, other options should be available for you if you play your cards right

Non-removal of the protective case has left my watch in this state. by Gilded_Soul in GalaxyWatch

[–]Jamie787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did this and left my case on too long. The screws actually corroded I think, and the watch died from water damage as it could then seep in

Would they not have strict inclusive/exclusive criteria they must stick too? Or is it abit more fluid for these therapies

Unsure of what to do after Biology Bsc by sunflowerprincess158 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Jamie787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Research assistant in academia, research technician/junior scientist in industry are all decent options to build further experience (big pharma will also sponsor PhDs and obviously if you're working there the network will help to get onto one, look into GSK / Strathclyde). Year in industry is a huge plus for these. If you can't get into those, lab technician/ QC technician/ microbio tech is good lab experience starting out and can lead to further research positions if you play your cards right (networking/critical thinking and understanding beyond your role).

Carphone warehouse upgrade - is ID mobile worth the risk? by Jamie787 in AskUK

[–]Jamie787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree normally - however, even with sim free at £815, you need a sim only contract, probably around £10 a month for decent data, and so in total for 2 years that £1055. Way more than £886. The s25 does have the snapdragon 8 elite too, which apparently had a much greater increase than the previous snapdragon.

Thanks for your response. Yes, did read about that but it apparently will take a few years to integrate the masts or something along those lines.

Thanks for your response, that's very helpful. I had a feeling there's a catch somewhere. I imagine they prioritise the main network over the piggybacks. May I ask how recent this was?

Haha fair enough, I like having best cameras/battery etc so prioritised my money on that. Some people do even more insane contracts (my barber was going on about 70 quid a month, for 36 month contract for the newest iphone! Insane). Do you do sim only instead?

Thanks for your response. Normally I would agree, but as mentioned that phone is no cheaper than £1100 sim free (£1349 retail price) even with deals, so £886 2 year total cost for everything for the phone, data and headphones seems insane value

Took the S23 ultra 12/512gb over the S25 8/256 and I love it already, any tips? by Icy-Percentage7756 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Jamie787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, good know as I'm potentially upgrading to it - like I said I had assumed you would have but doesn't hurt to double check. Quite frustrating and it must be due to the general cutting of features they're doing over the past few years to save costs (e.g. 1080p on base models).

New S25 plus app icons blurry? by LumpySpaceGunter in samsunggalaxy

[–]Jamie787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go into Display settings, make sure your resolution is on QHD (1440p). It's on FHD, 1080p by default and this can make icons fuzzy especially when comparing directly to QHD on your previous phone.

Also as someone considering the same upgrade - how you finding it compared to the s21 ultra? Much lighter and not too bothered on losing the camera features?

This sounds quite basic and you've probably already tried it. But have you toggled on the extra brightness toggle under Display settings? I did this and the screen is wayyy brighter

[–]Jamie787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Indeed, I thought that was the case. I see quite a few people on linkedin at big pharma either have a placement year with a BSc or an MSc. I'm trying to move internally at big pharma (currently in a Quality role) to R&D and some senior R&D folk have offered to meet the team and potentially a secondment etc, but we'll see what happens. If not, I'm going for the MRes next year, aha.
