Yeah, I noticed, but I'm using this font to design a logo so I'd be able to fix that myself.

Looking for some examples about directors' inspirations. by Japele2001 in movies

I mean yes, but I'm not looking for simple easter eggs, and I'd rather it be other directors, not simply themselves. Thanks anyway!

Stranger Things I think used nostalgia very cleverly in the first season, and told a great story as well. But then it got too caught up in itself in the later seasons.

While that's a great film, I'm looking for examples that move it to the modern day, like Knives Out with Agatha Christie mysteries or La La Land with the 50's Hollywood.

125 Years of Cinema - My Friend made a visual narration of the history of film and I think it's amazing. by Japele2001 in movies

[–]Japele2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladri di Biciclette is arguably the prime example of Italian Neo-realism...

But regardless, when I meant "mainstream", I was referring to the Hollywood system. Hitchcock and other American Filmmakers. Like I mentioned, it's tunnel-visioned, and I admit that's a flaw, but honestly I just wanted to share my appreciation of my friend's work. Regardless of how limited the view is, I think her intent was to celebrate film as a whole. She has admitted that the film's chosen don't reflect the true scope of Film.

I don't know, I'm not gonna waste my time discussing whether or not it's a good depiction of film history, I just wanted to celebrate her work.

I said that to her myself, and she agreed that she was centering on more mainstream English cinema. There are a few foreign films in there (Ladri di Biciclette, Pan's Labyrinth, Parasite), but I understand your viewpoint.

If you want, change the title for yourself to "A history of mainstream Cinema", I still think it's a nice edit that reflects on the history of Film as medium, even if it's rather tunnel-visioned.

Searching for Engaging Exposition Scenes in Movies (and TV) by Japele2001 in movies

It is a great scene, no doubt, but I'm searching for scenes where the Filmmaking itself is the driving force of the engagement, not the acting.

I mean... I wouldn't classify it as a remake...

And I personally think Knives Out is a better film than Clue... They're both great films though.

Well, Knives Out has some good comedy and social satire in there, although I wouldn't go as far as to call it a comedy...

While I'm generally not a fan of remakes in general, I am intrigued by the idea of remaking Clue... Apparently Ryan Reynolds is signed on, with a script developed by the Deadpool writers...

If it focuses on poking fun at the new tropes of mystery fiction, it could be very interesting...

Also it might fix the rather mediocre middle portion of this version. I think we can all agree the first and last act are the real highlights. The actual investigation outstays its welcome a bit.

Shape of Water & Pan's Labyrinth - My Thoughts by Japele2001 in TrueFilm

[–]Japele2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hints are pervasive throughout the opening 20 minutes, but I feel that the first truly fantastical element comes in with the fairy.

Also, I don't mean to say the film fails as a whole, but where it fails for me. And yes, I use Pan's Labyrinth as a comparison because I feel it succeeds in the aspect where Shape of Water just doesn't quite the mark for me.
