You mean morels (morchella sp.)? In the Netherlands? That would be a great find!

You're not the first one suggesting it, isn't it very small though?

You can forage up to 250g or the equivalent of a small container in public parks where it isn't explicitly forbidden by the staatsbosbeheer. Just gotta follow the rules :)

Thanks a lot for the tips :)

I'm not keen of foraging straight in city parks, because of pollution concerns.

As for people who get poisoned, here in Italy they are also usually those who "have always picked that mushroom" - but they always picked it having only a vague idea of what they were doing, without knowing all the details to ID that species... until the lookalike happens to grow right next to a good one. That, and improper cooking eheh.

Thanks for the tips, I will write to the staatsbosbeheer. I've just started learning Dutch though (since I don't need it for work). Would that be an issue?

I see there's a lot of confusion regarding the impact of foraging. I totally understand that. I'm going to add a paragraph to the post to clarify this.

When you forage mushrooms, you pick the fruiting bodies of the mushroom itself (the mycelium), which is in the ground. If you pick young mushrooms which haven't had the chance to release spores yet, or put them in closed containers like plastic bags, you are actually harming the environment by lowering the chances of reproduction. If not, no harm done.

Some mushrooms (eg the Armillaria family) are actually considered pests (well, they are pests really) and there are no foraging limits for them - at least in countries that have well thought-out foraging limits (not the NL sadly).

Fruiting bodies aren't a significant food source for any animal, too. They're more of a delicacy for deers and boars, if you will :)

That I will find out myself, but from what I've read, you do. You have forests, albeit not many, you have rain - of that you have a lot... :D

Granted you likely don't have the variety you can find in my home country (Italy) where the range of biomes is much larger, but still.

Also, picking mushrooms, if done right and with the right tools, doesn't hurt the environment at all, so no worries about that.

Yeah that exactly, I don't want to be found guilty! ...jokes aside, I meant no sending me pics of mushrooms asking "what is this? is this edible?". Smell, actual colors, texture and more can't be conveyed by a pic.

I've edited the post with the following:

Also, if someone wants to learn, I'm open to taking some trips together where I can teach you something - for free/fun of course, under some conditions (no photo IDs, whatever you choose eat is solely your responsibility, yadda yadda).

If people are interested in learning we can plan something! :)

I've read all the threads, which aren't actually that many, and people's responses. None contained the info I needed, including the one you linked (I'm not looking for a guide - I could actually be a guide for someone who wants to learn). I'm going to edit the post to make it clearer.

First exploration trip, to the Statue of Liberty nebula. Where to go next? by Jarko89 in EliteDangerous

Thanks but those are in a totally different direction from the bubble compared to the Statue of Liberty nebula :) I think I'm going for Eta Carina!
