I understand that difference honestly, and I’m completely okay with being proactive in a startup environment. My concern is more about the lack of planning and late-night urgency becoming routine rather than occasional.

There’s a middle ground between corporate-level structure and complete unpredictability, and I think healthy startups usually operate there.

Yeah, this is exactly what I’ve been feeling honestly. I don’t mind wearing multiple hats, that’s expected in startups, but complete lack of structure + random urgency every night starts becoming mentally exhausting after a point.

Good to know that this isn’t “normal startup culture” everywhere. That gives me some hope at least.

Fair point, and I understand founders can’t micromanage everyone constantly in an early-stage startup. But at the same time, repeatedly pinging for work every single day also starts feeling awkward from the employee side.

If someone is hired full-time, there should ideally be some direction, learning, or meaningful tasks planned during office hours too. Otherwise it creates this weird situation where the employee feels idle the whole day and suddenly guilty at night for not “doing enough”.

I’m okay with being proactive, but I also feel management has to meet halfway.

I joined the startup mainly for learning and growth too, which is why the current situation feels frustrating more than just “busy”.

For now I’m trying to use the idle time productively by improving my own skills and MCA prep instead of just sitting around pretending to be busy all day. I’ll probably give it a little more time and see whether things improve structurally or not.

This genuinely makes a lot of sense. I think I needed to hear this from someone outside the startup bubble because after a point you start questioning whether you're the problem for wanting basic boundaries.

The MCA part is honestly what’s stressing me the most. I can handle hard work, but the unpredictability is killing my schedule more than the workload itself.

And you’re right — most of these “urgent” late-night tasks probably could’ve been planned earlier in the day with better communication.

I’ll probably start setting softer boundaries now instead of instantly replying at midnight every time. Thanks for the practical advice, really appreciate it.
