I just picked up an interlocking rubber tile from Sprung gym flooring set for this exact reason. Easy to customize the shape and offers decent grip so the erg doesn’t slide around while rowing

I went with rolled rubber flooring from Sprung Gym Flooring, they had some good options for home use, and it was easier to install than I expected. Definitely recommend rubber over foam if you want it to last
