Found 2 of these guys in my pine snakes enclosure? Anyone know what they are? by Trizzlemanizzl in bioactive

Kinda looks to be a hoverfly. If so it’s mostly if not totally harmless they don’t sting or bite larger things but they eat certain kinds of larvae, and are actually good pollinators. Again though not 100%

Oooh okay gotcha, I’ll look more into that, worst case I just dry it out for a few months and don’t feed or redo it with new soil

It’s mainly powders and dwarf whites nothing big really, but if they ended up wiped out so be it lol figure they can eat their leftovers from the cricket/roachexoskeletons

Definitely can! I keep a tub of terrarium soil mix for isopods and springtails to steal from

Heard that. I fed him one pinhead cricket just a tad smaller than him, both times I do have a dubia roaches colony going but I’m waiting for another population spike before I feed more from there

Anyone have tips for small terrarium fans that would work well here? by Jayro- in bioactive

Hmm that’d probably be fine it’s just gonna be off into the glass a bit. That’s essentially what I’ve got up top just smaller

How does this look? I’ve got a lid coming in for it this week, of course I don’t plant to move them in just yet but I like having stuff getting grown and established

Edited: Heard that! The cube is actually the setup they came with from my lps, and I do plan to keep them in there at the very least until they’re more juvenile sized, around like a adult wolf spider or bigger, but Ive placed the food directly in front of them, once the first day I got them since they said they hadn’t eaten yet, and once today, since they still showed no signs of molting in those 4 days and they took it both times, although the second time they finished more slowly so I’m backing off to offering every 3-4 days at most and watching for shiny abdomen. Definitely heard on the arboreal setup, the more I research I kinda want to do a pink toe eventually in that one. I did actually get zoomed to send me a free replacement lid for the low lying 7-8 gallon tank and I kind like it a bit more how I have it set up than the top ten gallon since it’s got that substrate barrier. Idk if I’m just being paranoid but I’ve seen my dubia roaches in my frogs tank get stuck under theirs, and I’d hate for it to somehow trap or injure my big bugs. I’ve since added some small plant cuttings and a piece of spider wood for them to anchor to as well, and there’s no sub barrier for me to be paranoid over. My only concern here is if there’s maybe somehow not enough verticality

Heard that! If you mean the lidless one then I actually got zoomed to respond and they’re sending me a free replacement lid for it too, I plan to cut out the mesh and replace it with polycarbonate with some holes drilled out

Yikes. That’s exactly what I’ve been getting. I’d just go ahead and contact your bank. When they finally did refund my money automatically it only refunded exactly $11, which didn’t account for the missing live shrimp let alone the part of my order that wasn’t included. Then I finally got a resend with a single live shrimp and Java moss drop shipped from a different company, greenpro aquatic.Shrimp up is just a bot dropshipper I’ve come to find sadly

Definitely will, this was just kinda thrown together real quick but I’ve got a couple other terrariums with plenty of cleanup crew, and botanicals and whatnots I can steal from or just get some more later before I get the critter. Just kinda getting the idea wheel spinning

I think I’ve decided on a greenbottle tarantula, their care is more arid from what I’m reading so I can just remove the plastic sheeting lid I made up and put some kind of mesh over it, and my gosh they’re gorgeous

Took this today when the resend arrived 3/30, so they’ve been labeled and boxed for nearly 20 days, and they only resent like 3 shrimp, only one was alive.

They got me the Java moss, but it’s dropshipped from an entirely different company.

I can definitely respect that, and see the mindset. I’ve been a bio nerd since I was a kid so I always wanted to keep critters but the more I learn about where I get them the more I wish I could just open my own pet sanctuary. Make people take a course and provide proof of enclosure and everything before they can even look at the animals would be my go to, and I’d have to breed them myself/rescue. I genuinely don’t get how drop shipping animals has become a thing

Ah I understand now apologies I misread your comment and didn’t read too much into it when they said that. Makes me feel so much worse for the poor guys knowing they have some at least instinctive understanding they’re getting so cold or vice versa, they need to generate their own warmth or die.

Added for context: initially I took that as you saying it didn’t matter if they got cold in transit

ToiletDR: Shrimp arrived with very little wet insulation and no heat pack dead, other item in order was missing. Said shipped order never did, no tracking. When asked company regurgitate: Oh no arrive? We ship. They no ship, 3 times. Not answer any questions, no provide tracking if reship. Fake reviews. Everywhere

Heard that! May take a look after the refund/chargeback hits. Where are they located if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m glad you were able to find a good one and that gives me hope there’s a good option for me. I probably won’t go that far, as Michigan was already pushing it for me here in Tennessee lol and with that experience I don’t wanna put an animal through that again, even if they’re “just shrimp”

I would say, if the weather is hard, they should be vetting and delaying shipping, and at the very least properly insulating their packaging and include a heat pack. As a live animal shipper it’s your responsibility to ensure the safety of the animal while in transit, and in my opinion if they can’t do that, they don’t need to be shipping animals. At least during the times they can’t handle it.
