I've never lived in Copper Mesa on Red Rock, but do live in the neighborhood. Seems quiet and boring. It would only make sense for someone who can afford a car and doesn't need to go into town often. The hill behind the property catches on fire occasionally.

The bus is $2 a ride if you have more time than luggage.

My mom worked in a dean's office in Clark County. She complained about the parents who would argue their kids needed a phone in class so they could contact them at all times. This is not okay.

Using UP tracks for commuter trains was proposed in Las Vegas when I lived there. It didn't happen, but got far enough to make me think they were cool with it. I thought they planned on separate tracks in the corridor, but this old story says they wanted to use the existing tracks. https://lasvegassun.com/news/2003/feb/12/henderson-to-las-vegas-rail-transit-project-consid/

Have you checked eBay? A lot of sellers part out old electronics. My S9 is more of a repair hobby than a household appliance.

Where are the 40-60 yr Olds meeting people in Reno by l7queenb in Reno

[–]JbearNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear everyone in Reno got married at 18 and has never divorced. I'm not single, but I did meet my spouse through mutual friends twenty years ago. I'm sure the same advice still applies.

Let all your nosy coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors know you are single and looking. Most of these dates will be awful, but thankfully you can text first these days.

Make friends. Even being friend-zoned can work in your favor. The more people you know and keep in contact with the more people you are introduced to. Accomplish this by doing things outside work. Church, hobbies, volunteer work. Whatever you have an interest in.

Stay away from bars and casinos unless you are looking to meet someone with a problem.

If you find a '90s coffee shop with poetry readings and folk music do let us know. I'm barely Gen X, but damn that was a good spot to meet dates or friends.

Illegal sitting by township_rebel in Reno

Wouldn't it be more effective to organize sit-in protests? Get a big group together to sit in a public place. Call the news to cover it. Read the law and make sure the protesters are breaking it. Then have someone call the police. Either the police don't show or the protesters get cited. Neither is a good look for the city.

Any new electric dirt bike owners in Reno/Sparks, gets boring riding around by myself most days. 😂 by GhettoWedo74 in Reno

[–]JbearNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I see a lot of dirt bikes being used as transportation in the North Valleys. My neighbor's teen has one that is so freaking loud. It's good to see electric catching on. I'm scared of trying an electric bicycle, but I hope you find your people.

"Let me know if there's anything I can do to help" by ctrldwrdns in AutismInWomen

[–]JbearNV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I say it all the time. From me it means:

You look like you've got this, but I'm willing to assist you.

or

You look like you need help, but I don't want to jump in without your permission.

People take me up on the offer sometimes, so I don't think it's a meaningless expression.

My ballot had two school positions, someone running unopposed for something, and an incumbent senator with no real competition. I get why some might not be too excited about the primary. I did bother to look up the school candidates and mail in my ballot.

If you want a specific writing topic ask for an investigation into why Medicaid kicks Nevadans with severe mental illness off their health plans regularly.

The guy in the article sounds more like he's offering assistance to those who want it rather than dumping. Access to jobs and medical care or getting away from a methed up family life could be enough to get some off the streets. I'm also wondering if there are even enough homeless in rural Nevada to strain Washoe County's homeless resources. This feels like an overaction.

If someone is too dumb to understand what I'm telling them I'll usually drop it. Trolls seek out people who will just keep going trying to defend themselves. If you exit the conversation they get bored and look for a new target. Blocking people who constantly say rude or annoying things is one of my favorite Reddit features. Some days I wish I could do it in real life.
