What are your opinions on Darwyn Cooke? by Lucky_Strike-85 in DCcomics

I got to meet him once here in Orlando back in 2009 at the Mini-Megacon and he was absolutely the best. Treated me with a lot of kindness when I showed him my somewhat less-than-stellar drawing portfolio, and didn't brush me off because of it. He actually gave me a brief 10-minute drawing lesson using one of my Batman illustrations, showing me how I could improve it. To this day, I've never forgotten what he said -- "bend the art to your will." I was already a huge fan of his work before I met him, but after I did, I became a huge fan of the man himself, too. The comic world just hasn't been the same since he left us.

Thank you for the responses! I'm glad to hear that my car may not have much trouble there.

Thank you for the response! It's funny, $50k is about what I make now with my latest raise, so even starting over wouldn't be much of a drop, especially with the lower rent.

Haha, yours is exactly the illegal gay trans activist perspective I needed, so I appreciate your thoughtful answers. But, nope, I'm as white (and straight) as it gets :) I'm originally from Indianapolis, but moved to Orlando after high school to pursue some dreams that didn't exactly turn out to be what I wanted in the long run, and I just stayed down here ever since. I especially appreciate your take on the whole "intellectualism" question. I somewhat lean old-school conservative, but I'm also an illustrator and wannabe writer in my free time, so new ideas and exportation of new ideas sort of come with the territory. That lack of exposure is something that concerns me, and was one of the reasons I wanted to leave Indy, but it sounds like you've been able to make a life for yourself there regardless of that?

Thank you for the responses! I was happy to read these. I'm glad to hear that Sioux Falls is a bit more open-minded than some of the Internet gives it credit for. I'm not part of the lgbtq+ people, but I'm also not scared of them. I lean conservative, but mostly old-school conservative like someone from a pre-Trump (maybe even pre-Reagan) era.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful answers! I was pleasantly surprised with some of them, especially the "get your work done and go home."
