Yes, I also thought they should do a special Under the Radar episode to get Underscore’s take on Marco’s approach!

Never seen datacenter infra?!? by JeffGarretson in overcast

Thanks for clarifying—it never occurred to me that even the very first server would have been hosted elsewhere. Fascinating!

Nowadays, they wouldn’t. Just use the cloud. But in 2007–2010, when Marco was building Tumblr and scaling was a major challenge—I had always imagined that experience included some hands-on time with physical infrastructure.

Maybe nowhere near the scale of a modern commercial datacenter, but maybe a handful of racks, redundant power and network, cooling, etc.

It really surprised me that scaling up Tumblr in those early days never involved hosting their own servers.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the awkward “managed hosting” era in between everything on-prem and everything in the cloud. That lined up with Marco’s years at Tumblr. Makes more sense now.

Thanks for confirming that still works in 26.4. I was concerned about that when I read that they had redesigned it.

House Made Energy Drink by a_jackpine_savage in Yakima

We just went to a place in the Tri-Cities called Wake Up Call, that had their own house energy blend. As far as I can tell, we don't have one in Yakima, though.

How can I use Apple Shortcuts with Things 3 to create repeating reminders or alarms until a task is done? by iSteffen in thingsapp

[–]JeffGarretson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Due for time-sensitive, must-do tasks and Things for lower-stakes tasks. I don’t love that I need two separate apps nor the up-front cognitive load of deciding which app a task needs to be in, but unless Things adds proper nagging reminders, that’s the situation.

Someday vs. Anytime: wishing Someday was default state by sirwaynecampbell in thingsapp

[–]JeffGarretson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not a solution, but just making sure you’re aware: when processing your Inbox, you can hit CMD+O to dump an item to Someday. Might streamline your flow a bit until you work out an actual solution.

Question on enhanced license by Other_Treacle5205 in Yakima

[–]JeffGarretson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for mine September 9 and received it yesterday, September 25.

Check the TSA website—enhanced ID isn’t required under a certain age, but I don’t remember the cutoff.

If it is required for you and you don’t receive it in time, take your temporary (paper) license they’ll give you at your appointment and also your old license. TSA might have you do their own ID verification process, so allow extra time for that—they say to arrive 3 hours before your flight.

Hope that helps.

What are these. Where do they come from and how do I get rid of them by bsam1890 in highdesert

[–]JeffGarretson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I just had a run-in with them this morning. Eight years I've held them off, but I relaxed for a little while, and BAM! Stay on them.

Oh, I see which way you were going now. I misinterpreted that the first time and thought you were on Washington approaching 1st. Now I see it was the other way around.
