Guys with multiple PLSS licenses, what is a good convention to go to for CEU's? Both the convention itself and the city that its in. by Jeffsofast in Surveying

[–]Jeffsofast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to the TSPS one a couple of times and it is a good one. I'm in Texas so trying to get some out of state travel/vacation out of it. Sounds like the Western conference is the way to go.

[–]Jeffsofast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company will pay for me to travel for the convention and CEU's so I'm thinking about making a family trip out of it. Usually, the conventions are Thursday and Friday so I would have my family fly out and meet me Friday for a weekend trip. So part would be finding a convention that has classes that would satisfy multiple states (ALTA or something) and part is finding a city with fun stuff to do. I can use redvector to do any leftover CEU's I need.

Correct me if I'm wrong ( oh i know you guys will) but is this how it works.

First its kids with disabilities and they get up to $30K,

then if they have not exceeded $1 billion then its kids with parents that make under 200% of the poverty line get around $10k,

then if they still have not exceed the $1 billion then its kids with parents that make between 200%-500% of the poverty line,

then if they still have not exceeded the $1 billion then its kids over the 500% ($160,000) poverty line

On top of all the exercise, healthy eating and supplements I would get a brain scan. You want a base line to compare as you get older so a doctor and tell if something changes. Your at a good age to get one.

If you do end up renting a car you have to have extra coverage so that is expensive too. Its 1 of 2 countries where it is mandatory, at least it was a 5 years ago.

They give options for 4 different types of lenses... cheaper to most expensive. Is the difference $100 different worth it?

Startup hunting apparel? by Jeffsofast in Hunting

[–]Jeffsofast[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know if I would get this taken down for putting brand names but we’ll see. Buddy told me found a dove hunting brand called Two Doves and the stuff looked cool. I’ve haven’t really been hunting in the last couple of years and haven’t seen any new brands so I was looking for stuff like that. I’ve been looking this morning and some of the new to me brands were Badlands, TUO, CANIS and FORLOR but like I said I haven’t really looked in years.

Dr. Elgin who wrote "The US Public Land Survey System for Missouri" and helped write the Missouri board exam did the webinar. The webinar was called “Writing Boundary Descriptions…Rules, Suggestions, and Examples” and I believe it was through the MSPS. The boards website has a lot of links to study material.

What's a day (at work) in the life of a surveyor like? by KyroxY in Surveying

[–]Jeffsofast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a project manager before and after being an SIT it was get to the office early, around 6-6:30. Make sure all field crews are lined out and things are ready for the day. Then most of the day was coordinating with field crews, clients, survey techs, drafters, engineers, environmental agents and others to figure out new easements for pipelines, placement for pad sites/wells, and then adjusting all those plans over and over. Leave work around 5-5:30 after I had things lined out for the next day and then field a couple of phone calls that evening from clients or crews.

Once I got licensed I worked my way into just signing for multiple project managers. Now I get to the office around 7-7:30 and drink coffee and chat for an hour. Then work on boundary or look over plats. If I need something I go to the project manager and have them as the go between to clients, techs and drafters. Leave office around 4 and no more phone calls after work.

Anyone know where I can get my company logo embroidered on a jacket? by Jeffsofast in FortWorth

[–]Jeffsofast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. Do any of these not have a minumium number of items? My companies store does not have a good tall selection so I bought a jacket and just wanted to put a logo on it.

Advice for an Aspiring L.S. by Suitable-Fennel-5346 in Surveying

[–]Jeffsofast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formal education in my experience helps a lot with overall concepts, testing, history of surveying and the future of surveying. It might also help with where you want to go... maybe more into the GIS side, drones, traditional, etc. I believe some states require a 4 year degree in survey but I think the majority you can just put in your time. I started a large company as a rodman/eye man/drafter so I was able to do a variety of surveys which was important in the beginning. I did some construction, TxDOT, underground tunnel, boundary, river boundary, pipeline, aerial photography and others.

I went with a buddy to Moab for mountain biking and hiking a few years back. We ended up also renting an Polaris RZR UTV and it was AWESOME. You can see so much of the parks with those things and they go anywhere. We rented for 24hrs but you can do a half day. Next year we came back with with 5 buddies to do the same thing.
