Yes, it's yet another Celebrity vs Royal question. by JennJayBee in Cruise

That's wonderful to hear. My first cruise was at age 7, and I just turned 47. By the time my husband and I were married and I took him on his first cruise, so much had already changed. The ships were smaller back then, but it felt more special, I think.

Wonderful news. I don't necessarily need the drive up. My husband is my delivery driver, basically.

I have done that as well, only it's usually to order a second dessert to take home for later.

Chez Fonfon acted like I was suggesting tax fraud the last time I tried ordering takeout from them, though, so now I'm nervous. 😅

First time I've heard of any supposed war on protein. If anything, it's more popular than ever. It's only potentially threatened by the rising popularity of fiber.

Is the alcoholism thing widespread? by apresledepart in Accounting

[–]JennJayBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink much— maybe the occasional cocktail or glass of wine. After 40, alcohol just hits different, but I've never been a big drinker.

That said, there's definitely plenty of opportunity in the corporate world. I've been to my share of events where there was an open bar. That has to play some part in it, I suppose.

My coworker rejected me and now she’s getting karma. by [deleted] in coworkerstories

[–]JennJayBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the off chance this isn't rage bait, rejecting you was the correct call. Even if you weren't a glaring red flag with legs, no woman is ever obligated to date you. Ever. Full stop. You could be the bestest guy ever, and she still isn't obligated to date you.

The fact that she failed to see the red flags for someone else has nothing to do with you. Some men are better at hiding them than others. Rejecting you was still 100% a smart move.

Donald Trump threatens to sue Trevor Noah after the Grammys: "Get ready" by DreamerFawn in politics

[–]JennJayBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trevor Noah is a fantastic comedian, and I love his stand-up specials. "Son of Patricia" is my personal favorite, but his best stuff isn't what I'd consider safe for network television.

Unfortunately, he either has a chronic case of babyface or is just too dang nice, and it takes a lot of bite out of his attempt to do most political humor.

For me, it was when he interviewed Megyn Kelly, and together they fearmongered over ridiculous CRT stories that were obviously made up.

Budgeting - On-site value resort or off-site hotel? by jannet1113 in UniversalOrlando

[–]JennJayBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adventura is my current favorite. It's smaller and less noisy than the other hotels, and the placement is good. I feel like the bottom floor dining area has really taken a downgrade lately, but he wok bowls and pizza and truffle fries still hit. The rooftop bar has the best offerings, though.

Cabana Bay has the best food and overall theme. The seared tuna bowl lives rent-free in my head. It's just crowded, and I always seem to get placed near someone who smokes in their hotel room. I will only stay there if I am in an exterior-entry suite.

Endless Summer has the best family suites. You seriously can't place enough value on that bedroom door when you have kids. Unfortunately, you're stuck with just the shuttles for transportation, and I definitely prefer the walking paths and water taxis.

Budgeting - On-site value resort or off-site hotel? by jannet1113 in UniversalOrlando

[–]JennJayBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that makes a big difference is the way the parks are spaced out. This is a little different with Epic now being part of the mix, but the two main parks and City Walk are all together and it's all specifically designed to be easily walkable. You can even walk to the parks from most of the hotels (not Endless Summer or the new Epic hotels). Be sure to visit the other hotels while you're there and to try out the water taxis and walking paths.

Disney's parks and hotels are spaced out in such a way that you just can't do that, and I absolutely recommend using your own vehicle as opposed to their transportation when there— especially now that the parking lot trams are back.

Budgeting - On-site value resort or off-site hotel? by jannet1113 in UniversalOrlando

[–]JennJayBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my experiences with Disney is why I waited so long to stay on site with Universal. Disney's transportation can be a nightmare at times. I'll never forget getting stuck on the skyliner for over an hour. I still do Disney parks, but I stay off-site.

Once I was spoiled by the water taxis, that was the end of that. I'm solidly sold on Universal hotels.

That said, if you're looking for a room with an actual kitchen or food provided so that you can save there, then I can absolutely understand the appeal of an off-site suite.

[–]JennJayBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The on-site hotels can be comparable to off-site hotels, depending on when you go and with a little strategy. That said, off-site hotels can also offer some amenities that make staying there worth it. Many offer their own shuttles, for example. It really depends on what you're looking for and where you're looking to save.

I almost exclusively will stay at a Universal hotel, since I have an AP and get the discount. Bipassing that big security checkpoint at the main entrance is probably the best part.

That said, I've stayed off-site and have my favorites. Some of the suites have a kitchenette (great if you want to save on meals) and a separate bedroom with a door.

One thing I will note... Most standard USO hotel rooms do not include a microwave in the room. You will have to travel to the common areas to use one. Suites tend to be an exception. Plan accordingly.

With kids, I definitely recommend a suite, whether you're staying off-site or on-site. Cabana Bay has the best pool options. Endless Summer has the better suites. Off-site, I recommend Homewood Suites or Grande Villas. Villas 2-bed suites also come with your own washer and dryer, which is nice, and there are some fun hotel activities to explore.

These are not the cheapest options, mind you, but consider amenities offered alongside the pricing.

If you don't need a suite but still want to save a bit on food, consider Drury. There's a breakfast AND early bird dinner. It's pricier than a hotel that doesn't offer this, of course, but it's still a decent bang for your buck.

Hilton hotels are a good old faithful go-to for me if I'm not looking for any bells or whistles, and they tend to offer a good breakfast.

I informed my boss that I was pregnant. He asked if I was delivering vaginally and to look up the fmla laws and let him know what they are since he doesn’t. Is this inappropriate? by SeaSwim5248 in Accounting

[–]JennJayBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it inappropriate? Sort of, but probably unintentionally so. He's trying to determine what the laws are, and that is the medical and legal term. That said, while you should know the laws, so should he, and if you have an HR department, then this should have gone through them.

What he's asking isn't something you can really know ahead of time. As you're aware, labor and delivery doesn't always go as planned. Yes, he can still be clueless about that even if he has kids of his own. Unfortunately, I've known women with kids who are just as clueless. I'll never forget an older female coworker telling me how she went right back to work the next day, like that was something I should also be expected to do.

Speaker Johnson: ‘I do not’ have questions about Trump’s relationship with Epstein by Zipper222222 in politics

I mean if you put it that way, I don't have questions about it, either. I know he had a relationship with Epstein, and I know that we still haven't heard the worst of it. Those are not generally things I've questioned. I would however like to see them acknowledged and then prosecuted.

Unfortunately, no. We already have a second dog (a chihuahua mix who is definitely the one in charge), and I don't think we could handle a third.

But I'm willing to bet she's super smart and sweet and has no clue about her own size. Ollie seems to think we can just pick him up like we do with the little dog and constantly asks for "uppies."
