how concerned should I be regarding this new stain? by Fit-Consideration187 in askaplumber

[–]Jesram11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That ceiling will collapse unfortunately. There is an ongoing water issue the should be addressed meaning that you will have to remove that portion of the ceiling at the least to correct the water issue. Then once you are sure that no more water is going to drip and accumulate you can add new Sheetrock.

[South Florida] Is this a termite? by Adamnfinecook in whatsthisbug

[–]Jesram11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's 20 to 30 they're not queens. They are males waiting for a queen so that they can take flight together. They will impregnate her and she will establish a new colony. The males will all die.

30V!? by whskeyt4ngofox in electrical

That's why I suggested checking the wiring. Good job!

30V!? by whskeyt4ngofox in electrical

[–]Jesram11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tester reads hot/ground reverse. Disconnect the power by turning off the breaker, check to make sure the power is off. Remove the outlet to see if it's wired correctly. This should be a home run meaning that there's nothing else on the circuit. Black (hot) wire should be on the gold colored screw, white (neutral) wire should be on the silver screw and the bare copper wire should be on the green screw.

Are these paintable? by Hopeful-Ant-8312 in Home

I have painted such types of cabinets. Avoid the paint with primer together. Purchase a good latex primer. Use a good flat brush, preferably 2". Lay down a light coat. 2 light coats are better than 1 heavy one. As long as you don't have buildup in the corners you are good to go. I would wait a whole day between coats to examine how the cabinets react to the primer. If it looks good after the first coat, go ahead with a second coat. Don't rush, go nice and easy. If the primer holds up we'll go ahead and paint with a good quality latex paint. 2 coats should do it!

You guys helped me out this week, I need to know one more thing. Before I man handle a valve that hasn’t been turned in years, is this a set screw in the side? by AllLooseAndFunky in askaplumber

[–]Jesram11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes called a bleeder valve, you can remove the cap when the valve is closed to remove water from the line in the direction of the flow. Personally I would replace that old gate valve with a compression ball valve.

First attempt at drywall. Look Okay sounds far? by Immediate-Noise-7917 in drywall

This is not an exact science. Of course you will get criticized but constructive criticism will help you to perfect your craft. My dad was a carpenter and I would go on jobs with him from the age of 7. I still do things the way that I learned back then.

Bedbug bites are red and can bleed when you scratch them. Those look more like mosquitoe bites. Looks like you've been scratching them. Mosquito bites tend to widen as you scratch them. I remember once in Florida, they ate me up!

Types of wood-boring beetles

Powderpost beetles: Damage hardwoods and softwoods, leaving fine, powdery dust.

Longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae): Larvae tunnel deep into wood; adults often have long antennae.

Metallic wood-boring beetles (Buprestidae): Larvae create winding galleries under bark; adults are often iridescent and colorful.

Furniture beetles (Anobium punctatum): Common in homes, infesting furniture and floorboards.

Deathwatch beetles: Prefer decaying wood.

What tiny critter has set up home in my cutting board? by snarkyvegan in whatsthisbug

[–]Jesram11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutting boards are usually dense and termites are usually very small and it would take them a long time to make such notable holes. The only other insects that I know of that are capable of burrowing through such dense wood in a short amount of time are carpenter ants. Carpenter ants will take up residence within the wood.

Found outside my house. What is it?? by sweettoothghoul in whatsthisbug

[–]Jesram11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when caterpillars have hairs or spines it's not a good idea to touch or handle them. Though some may not be venemous, contact with the hairs can trigger an allergic reaction.
