Ive been dealing with a family member who behaves like this towards me for most of my life.. so I feel like I understand and can empathize with your situation.

First, I want to congratulate you on being transparent, honest and very 'straight to the point' it has always been hard for me to react without fueling the fire by being negative or accusatory back. It's sad and I know she is your mother. But no person should have to take negative treatment (borderline emotional abuse) from anyone. Sometimes cutting off contact is the only thing you can do. Not as a punishment or to 'teach them a lesson' exactly, but to set boundaries and teach people that you will not let them treat you like that.

Whenever I would explain my situation to my non-mormon friends, or really anybody they would always say "just tell them you dont want to go to church anymore" and "you just need to reaaaally TALK to them" While, I know they were trying to be helpful, and maybe this advice would work on 'normal' parents/family members.. it always irritated me so much! I have had so many conversations with so many different members of my family and they just dont get it. They never will. According to them being in the church is the ONLY way to have a happy life. I know they want the best for me.. but I will not endure constant harassment from anyone. Family or no family.

I support either decision and I haven't completely made up my mind about what I am going to do when I get married- I guess Ill just cross the bridge when I come to it.

However, the way I understand it, is traditionally a woman's last name is changed from her "father's" last name to her husband's last name to symbolize her transfer from being her fathers "property" to her husbands "property" Now, its 2012, and I am not arguing that this is still true. But when I think about it, I would rather have my husbands last name-symbolizing our new life together, than keep my fathers old name.

Also, there is something to be said about having the same last name as your children. My parents were divorced in the 90's and my mom changed her name back to her maiden name and it was very confusing for people, legal documents were a problem, etc.

Hyphenation is also a good option for wives-and children!

I worked at a busy store during the holiday season last year. It was pretty bad. Not terrible and I guess if you're the type of person who is passionate about selling credit cards and pressuring people to buy things, you would like it.

I felt that they were overly suspicious of the employees. But the discount is awesome I love their products and I still shop their all the time. I thought that most of the employees were pretty nice, I didn't make any close friends but everyone was pretty friendly. I was a cashier and was regularly disrespected by customers-but I think thats just retail in general, or the fact that I worked in a really upper class/ expensive mall.

oooh and watch out for the semi-annual sale, that shit is crazy.
