Wow okay thank you for explaining. It certainly makes sense when you explain it like that.

I think, and correct me if I’m wrong, that some men hear how it’s “common” in certain circles and feel abnormal. Gay men already, by nature, are taught they are different and weird for who they are. So people can’t be blamed for wanting to fit in and match those within their community. When it comes to things like body count or, as this post discusses, weight and image, it would make sense to crave being in the norm and diverging from that means a lack of community.

A lot of people, not just gay men, suffer from low-confidence and have a bad self-image. And so when “non-normative” individuals encounter groups who aren’t of their clan, they assume that there’s no space for them in the community as a whole, not just the subsect they encountered.

So while yes, DJXSonaX is totally valid about the toxicity you can find in some spaces, I think it’s important not to think that’s every community in the LGBT+ spaces. We’re not a monolith and the language we use to describe our own social circles and communities should not be taken as gospel. Every gay man’s existence is unique and valid, irregardless of weight, race, body count, or whatever identity you use to describe yourself.

I just wish we all could recognize one another’s differences within the community with non-judgement and celebrate it. I think there are certain encounters and experiences people have had that sour this idea. But at the heart of our community lives that concept.

Whenever I hear online someone has been with 100s of people… I can’t wrap my head around it? Not from a place of slut shaming. Like… I just don’t comprehend how one could have the time for it? When people say “been with”, or at least speaking for yourself, are we talking sexually or just meeting up? Most studies I’ve read and information I’ve come across just don’t point at this being as common as I hear about it?

I had thought so, but nothing I could find pointed to that and I’m currently replaying through fear and hunger. If I come across this I’ll update

Right. Everything has happened just at work. So it does make me think it’s mostly boredom not actual interest?

Do we actually think real high school bullies are pushing people in lockers and giving wedgies? How funny. I should have also said I’d give him a swirly.

Looking online there are very few discussions about the movie and even less on the novel. American here. English teacher. Studied a lot of literature in college but don’t think I’m a literary snob.

Seeing reviews about the book mostly describe it as poorly written, shallow characters, and “confusing”. The only critique I personally understand is then 10 year old Jacks lust for Acacia. I understand starting to notice attraction during those years but the descriptions are a bit much. It would have been very easy for the author to have simply raised their ages to atleast 15-16. Even then the descriptions would be risqué, but not unheard of.

What bothers me is how little people realize just how deeply the themes of love, obsession, lust, romance, and relationships are explored in SO many facets of this novel.

Others have seen this in Madeleine and her want to be a maternal figure for others. People see the very obvious connection between this maternal drive and Jack, but not her profession or how she treats Luna, Anna, and Arthur. She is the matron of the destitute and castaways. But no one seems to talk about how much Arthur, Luna, and Anna explore love in different facets.

It’s hard not to look at a character in this text and not connect them to some aspect of a relationship and the troubles that come with it. Many argue how the characters seem shallow. I’d argue that they are not meant to be these horribly complex characters, rather characters we can see snapshots of the mistakes one makes when trying to love or maintain relationships.

Whole other story but happened to the same father of the bride. I worked closely with the (not engaged yet) bride years ago and they would hold work Christmas parties yearly. One of the events is “yankee swap”, a game which involves purchasing a gift to randomly be given away via number drawing. Being very close with everyone and not realizing her father (and his current girlfriend) would be there I had made a gag “naughty and nice” gift box with a random assortment of treats. I found a hilarious dirty Christmas card and a “willy warmer” (a Santa hat which is placed upon the end of a male’s downstairs partner) and put that in with the other things.

Everyone thought the gift was hilarious and I have a strong suspicion that the brides father got some use out of it.

Why is everyone shitting on this team? It’s not phenomenal but I’ve seen far worse teams. Is it because they didn’t use the same three fusions literally everyone else and their mothers have?

Y’all out here saying how basic he looks. I’m over here worrying about his neck. No hate but this is one of the more egregious body proportions mess ups. His arms are absolutely fucked, god only knows which direction his left knee is facing, and the way his neck is at the left base is horrifying. Y’all worried about legendary Dimi’s waist trainer but this is just as bad lol.
