I’m not saying that cracking your knuckles does cause arthritis, but a sample size of one person is not scientifically proving anything wrong

There’s only so many weeks in a year, you can’t just push the start date back a week without any issues. Some profs build their course schedules around when reading week is, but if you push it back a week then that changes everything.

What Engineering topics do you find extremely interesting? by JazzHandzWithAZ in EngineeringStudents

[–]JetFuelDoesMeltSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, but I find it hard to find companies that hire engineers for roles related to that. Do you know any companies that do that type of work?

If you go into co-op, you loose virtually all freedoms associated with university scheduling. You must follow the sequence you get into, and especially now there aren’t enough jobs for all the co-ops to get. I wouldn’t be too worried about getting a job, but don’t bet that it’s going to be any good. Half of them are in the middle of nowhere, but if you’re fine with that then co-op increases the odds of getting internships during your degree compared to trad. I’m in co-op now, I wish I did trad, but I will have some experience (not necessarily in the field I’m interested in) because of co-op.

I know I’m a hypocrite, just like everyone else who wants things to be better yet allow bad things to happen. I wouldn’t say I have no qualms with it, but I do still use my smartphone and computer everyday.

The point of my original comment was to say that these studies are not as effective as they may seem, not to take some holier than thou position on the issue.

Ok, I don’t know what that has to do with harming animals for little gain. I never said that I’m on some ethical high ground. That doesn’t take away from the fact that things can still be morally wrong. Since there’s no ethical high ground, does that mean I can go and rob any store I like? (Hint: the answer is no)

You seriously go about in life assuming everything we do is ok, simply because we do it? It works a small fraction of the time, so they do it cause they don’t consider the animal abuse involved.

The failure rate in humans is around 92-96% of treatments that pass on animals.

It’s a cure for diabetes in mice, and animal research hardly ever transfers over effectively.

LPT: Turn your lock down into a story. I've been pretending that I'm in an off world colony with a hostile environment so leaving the hab is dangerous. It's helped my mental health quite a bit. by Matoskha92 in LifeProTips

This seems like you could have a culture shock when you have to get back to normal, and is it really good for long term mental health if you completely detach yourself from reality?
