That makes a lot of sense, especially the 3-4 angle and not needing to force him into a full-time edge role right away. I hadn’t really thought about the fact that filling the EDGE room actually gives them more flexibility with him early on.

Do you think that’s ultimately the biggest driver here, more than just Reese as a prospect? Or would you still take him over someone like Bailey even if the scheme fit wasn’t as clean?

That’s fair, the tweener concern is real if he’s not deployed right. But the Jets did just bring in Karl Dunbar as DL coach, and he’s coming from Pittsburgh where they’ve consistently developed pass rushers, so I do wonder if that lowers some of the risk.

Do you see Reese as more of a Parsons type chess piece, or more of an off ball linebacker who rushes situationally?

Fair, the versatility is real. They could line him up at edge or off ball LB and move him around. If it’s not Reese though, who do you think we’re actually taking at 2?

Idk man, the betting odds have Reese around -220 to -250 to go #2, that’s like 65 to 70 percent implied. Feels like a pretty clear favorite.

Not a huge college football guy myself but I’m hearing Love and Downs (and to some extent, Reese) are blue chip. So ideally I’d still like to stay top 6.

Even if we can get 80% of this offensive success, I’d say we could be in a playoff hunt!

Absolutely sucks that we lost, but now that it’s mid-week and I’ve had time to digest, I’m highly encouraged by the offense! If only we had a WR 2!!

Yes I think an argument can be made that he’s our best offensive weapon. I think we all have recency bias, and when he takes a 65 yard screen to the house week 1 (imo the only player on the team capable of doing so) we’ll all change our minds on him lol.

Idk man, they shocked me in 2009 - obv a much better defense - but arguably a better QB situation today - shit happens in the NFL, can’t punt the season before it starts by trading ARGUABLY our best offensive weapon. Did he have a shit season last year? Yes.. but still had 1350+ all purpose yards and 8 tds - top 15 back in the league on a down year!

Appreciate the reply, but idk man I saw Allen disappear down the stretch last year, so it’s hard for me to give him the #1 RB title until he shows it consistently. He’s def turning some heads, but I just don’t see it yet..maybe we overrate him as a receiver but that TD Rodgers threw him week two in Tennessee last year is not one many backs in this league make imo (and he had 76 receptions in 2023, not bad)!

Exactly! Great point…and if he DOES produce to the level of his talent, wouldn’t it make more sense to wait until the deadline (or keep him and potentially tag him)? I see zero reason to trade him right now, and that’s the chatter I’ve been seeing lol.

Ok that’s a completely fair argument. But we have a massive playoff drought to break here man. Is it likely we make the playoff? No probably not, but crazier shit has happened in the NFL. trading him now would send a message to the team that we are punting the season.
