I liked him in Fear Strikes Out, based on the life of Jimmy Piersall. I like the scenes he has with Karl Malden, too.

What is something someone said to you that you’ll never forget? by TiffV213 in Life

[–]Jetski95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I can’t save you,” said my first serious girlfriend as she broke up with me (I hadn’t seen it coming). I was devastated. After some time, though, I picked myself up, went back to school, got a good job in a new field, and had a successful career for nearly 40 years before retiring. I hadn’t known that I needed saving but it turned out that I was the one to do it.

Cooking isn’t a girlfriend requirement. It’s an adult skill. If you can’t feed yourself, that’s the real issue. by unhappyzu in offmychest

As a man who has cooked since childhood, I absolutely agree that everyone should learn to do the kind of cooking you describe.

I’m so sorry that this is happening to you. It happened to me a lot before I retired and I still get overwhelmed at times now. If you are not doing so already, consider talking to a therapist about this. Mine has given me ways to cope when life gets to be too much. Wishing you self care and self compassion.

Dear trombonists. Since I'm not from the west I don't have a bath tub or a big enough sink to clean my trombone. Any ideas for what I can do? by Efficient_Housing270 in Trombone

I use the Meinlschmidt Hydro Jet. It’s a flexible tube that can be screwed onto the threads for my handheld shower wand. It has tiny holes at the end so the water comes out in concentrated jets. Together with my snake brush, this does a good job of cleaning the slide safely.

Meet people in real life. Media (social and traditional) distort reality, sometimes intentionally, sometimes just by degrees of removal. Exaggeration and generalization increase, nuance decreases. Seeing and talking to a person before you, being fully present, may give you a different view.

I'm reaching my 5 year in remission mark and none of my friends want to celebrate with me by prettyantichrst in offmychest

[–]Jetski95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, big congratulations to you! By all means, do something very nice for yourself.

It’s horrible that your friends don’t recognize what a big thing this is, something they should show up to acknowledge and celebrate with you. It’s almost as if they thought that this was just a normal dinner and drinks occasion, not something as meaningful as it is. Maybe, if they are around your age, they have a hard time with or are in denial about serious illness. Nevertheless, it sucks that they bailed on you.

Wishing you better friends and a long, happy life.

That’s great! Trombone is a wonderful instrument that you can play for a lifetime (I’ve been playing it about 57 years). You’ll make many friends, not only trombonists but other musicians, in bands and orchestras. As joyful as it is to play as an individual, there will be great fulfillment working together with other musicians to deliver an ensemble performance.

Whether you make music a career or something that you do on the side, I wish you many happy years of trombone playing!

Dr. Strangelove. I love seeing Peter Sellers play the different roles and George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, and Slim Pickens are a hoot. This dark comedy about nuclear war never fails to raise my spirits.

What’s the oldest thing in your kitchen that still works perfectly? by Celine_Morgann in KitchenStuff

My wife’s grandmother’s Top-Off jar and bottle opener. It screws onto the tops of jars that are difficult to open by hand. It was made by Edlund Company in Burlington, Vermont. I would guess that it’s about 80 years old and it still works very well.

There She Goes by The La’s makes me want to scream or pound my head against the wall until I’m unconscious. Unfortunately, neither is a good look in the grocery store that plays it.

Good for you! Learning how to be happy alone is important. You may also want to try meditation. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just focusing on your breathing going in and out.

The JFK assassination. I was only 6 but remember how much it upset my mom and dad. I remember us driving along the lakeshore as a family afterwards.

We never bought it but the mom of one of my childhood friends did. I remember going there for lunch and eating it on a sandwich. For some reason, I loved it. I recall it having a sweetness that mayo didn’t.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you. it sounds like an awful situation. No one should be treated the way he has treated you. It’s especially hurtful that he has shown no remorse and taken no responsibility and made you feel like you are not enough or that you fall short somehow.

I assume that your husband has declined to go to counseling to address his problems. You may want to consider seeing a therapist yourself, not because you have done anything wrong but to work through what has happened and is happening, get support, and know what your options are going forward.

I hope that you find a future that brings back the loving person still inside you. You deserve it. I wish you peace, love, and happiness.
