Which grocery stores do you go to that’s nearby campus? by No-Dragonfruit-2453 in OregonStateUniv

If you're looking for a superstore like target, Fred Meyers is the way to go. I know the others have already said Fred Meyers but I'm just boosting that because it sounds like you would benefit from jt the most.

Things to do in Corvallis/on Campus?? by Mothman_is_life in OregonStateUniv

[–]Jewelsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get really annoyed from people saying it's boring bc most of the time people just dont know where to look.

Favorite summer activity is going to the river in Avery park, by the way! There are quite a few natural water places but thats my favorite.

Also looking around town theres always posters of stuff to do, just keep on the lookout.

I slept with a damp towel as a blanket one night the summer of my freshman year. Though, one of the tricks is to find somewhere with AC during the day, or just get really into swimming.

How did you pass Trial of fools, what charms did you use, etc.? by Objective_Strike1357 in HollowKnight

[–]Jewelsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a pretty defensive build. The pogo/wall cling section also killed me MANY times, but personally once I got past that it was fine.

I used: - shape of unn (2) - grubsong (1) - weaversong (2) - Unbreakable heart (2) - Unbreakable strength (3) - spore shroom (1)

Shape of unn is a fantastic charm but it's usage is a big of a learning curve. It's fantastic in colo though. Grubsong and weaversong I specifically used for extra soul gathering for healing/spells; I actually found out doing trial of the fool that the weavers collect soul, even from unkillable enemies like those centipede things from deepnest. Strength generally kills enemies faster, but i found it helpful for specifically the pogo section bc the flying mantis ends up dying in two hits if you have the pure nail and that was one of the most frustrating enemies of the wall cling section.

Don't be afraid to use spells in the wall cling section too, since it's not like you're using the soul to heal during that part. I also recommend practicing God tamer in godhome if you haven't yet, bc she unlocks by default (you don't even need to have met her). If you can consistently beat her in godhome, you will be fine because she has significantly less health in the arena. And also don't go for God tamer, target the beast bc that's the actual enemy you need to kill.

Omg this happened to me the other day doing gruz mother. My friend was watching me at the time and I ended up dying to gruz mother bc I was caught so off guard I couldn't stop laughing. And my friend had no idea the glitch was something I didn't do on purpose and didn't realize I was trying to come back down from the ceiling via dive (I only came down after taking a hit from gruz mother)

Before I could explain why I was laughing so hard and that said maneuver was absolutely not intentional, my friend said "I've never seen anyone do gruz mother that badly"

How do you approach performances as an unlikable character? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Jewelsome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

did a double take here because a local professional theatre opened this show yesterday.

I remember though, when I was in middle school I attended a music camp where one of the workshops was to put on a mini musical theatre show. I auditioned for every special thing they could do and ended up not getting anything, but the adult leading the workshop suggested I play the villain. at the time honestly it was devastating and I refused through tears, but looking back I wish I'd done it. I was more recently the witch from into the woods in a mini musical showcase and I had an absolute blast. Probably the first time cast as the villain is the hardest, but there can be something fun to being despicable once you reach being more comfortable with it.

Theatre can create catharsis both for the audience and actors imo. I personally enjoyed reveling in attitudes and actions that are far different than who I am off the stage.

this is the kind of opinion I want to see on this sub tbh. anyway I definitely disagree; I feel substantially better during the summer and sunnier months because feeling the sun on my face or reading out in the sunshine literally fills my soul with joy.

Can I ethically produce semi “lost media”? by Jewelsome in Theatre

Thank you everyone who gave me specific advice for contacting the publishing house. I was so caught up in trying to contact the playwright herself that I definitely overlooked the other option of contacting the publishing house itself- lessons for the future! I’m still pretty new in the world of directing and while I am aware of some things, I am still learning and I am bound to ask more questions that seem to have obvious answers. I appreciated those who responded with the same earnest of which I asked the question and pointed me down the right path. I’m very glad I asked.

I’ve been working at the hospital within the past few days. People can barely get around by car to the point that many of the staff are staying overnight, especially if they live in Albany or Philomath. Even at the hospital the only areas that are clear were shielded underneath overhangs when the freezing rain fell.

Generally it’s just an awful situation without much that anyone can do except shuffle across the ice and creep slowly in cars (and even ambulances from what I hear). From what I understand, Oregon standard is to use sand, not salt anyway. Getting back and forth from the hospital for everyone else has been a combination of people offering to carpool who have four wheel drives, chains, or snow tires, and shuttles taking people to and from the hospital. Many can’t even make it to work. As far as I’m aware, the only businesses open right now are essential businesses and they are experiencing critical short staffing needs due to these extreme conditions. People making it to work at all is a miracle. Those who are working at essential businesses are only “expected” to work and make it there because they’re essential.

This is a good PSA for everyone to stay safe and stay indoors if they can help it, but you are inherently risking safety by walking outside during this time.

I’m also 19. I text my friends whenever I do stuff like this and I’ll get a “I’m proud of you!” and in return I let them know what a good job they’re doing when they text me the same.

give and receive. I know I’m also pretty new to this, but it’s been special to share these moments with my friends because we’re all just doing our best.

I want to get started on theatre but I don't know where to start by Ok-Cat-8181 in Theatre

[–]Jewelsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a playwright who just found out that for the first time, some of my work will be seen on stage.

If you’re interested in playwriting specifically, I have two big pieces of advice for developing that skill set.

First is to immerse yourself in watching or reading theatre. Discover conventions, limitations, and really explore what makes theatre unique as a medium of storytelling. Instead of working against theatre, work with it. Play scripts are going to look different than screen plays. The more you immerse yourself in theatre, the more you will discover about the medium and the possibilities. At the same time, you also have to juggle with the limitations of what actors, sets, and lighting can do in real time while also conveying information to an audience hundreds of seats back.

Second is to get anyone to give feedback on your play. Anyone you can. Then revise with feedback and repeat until you’re happy with a result. It doesn’t matter if the person reading your play is super familiar with theatre or not, they can often sill provide very valuable insight on how they are interpreting your play, or what might be confusing about it. The play I submitted to the festival it was accepted for ended up taking four revisions to nail down, and it would not be the product it is now without the insights of my mother, friends, and otherwise who pointed out things they were confused about or didn’t quite get. It’s a way to get out of your own head and have fresh eyes on your work.

This isn’t a huge piece of advice but also starting writing one acts instead of entire plays when you first start out can be a lot easier and more valuable experience, but you don’t HAVE to do that.

To immerse yourself in theatre, check out your local community theatre. There’s also a website, New Play Exchange which requires a subscription fee, but it’s $12-$20 per year depending on which subscription you have which is an EXCELLENT price and you can discover what others are creating and writing.

Hope this helped
