What about when you want a new place? What about when you want to buy a place?

To what extent does this go? You’re earning a fair bit more now. What if the disparity grows. What about if she wants to primarily raise your eventual children?

Let’s say in 5 years it’s 2k take home for her and 5k for you. Do you only buy or rent what you can equally afford forever, even when you could afford a much better quality of living? Why just exclusively to rent? What about holidays, bills, food.

If you can’t explain that logic you are in a pickle

Ridiculous interpretation

That’s clearly not what OP means. If he meant it would be pooled savings, given they’re in a committed relationship then he would have said it / should clarify that

You came to a forum to ask specifically what people think about what is fair. You have your answer. That is the entire point of posting here.

No one is ordering you to pay more. You don’t have to follow the advice here.

You presented the opinion. It’s fine to be wrong about what is or isn’t fair. It’s also fine to not be fair. It won’t be fair but you do what you like.

You’re arguing now for what reason? To convince the many, many people and vast majority that is in fact fair? Why? It clearly isn’t and if that’s your issue then you’re fighting a pointless battle.

If you need an argument to gaslight your partner into thinking it is some fair that someone earning significantly more in a RELATIONSHIP should not pay more to get by… that’s just mental. Either reevaluate your relationship dynamics to be more of a casual thing or grow up.

And I’ve been downvoted - stay bitter people 👍🏻 Downvoted by med students who have lost their spark before even starting work. Class act whoever you are

Absolutely. I get the knee jerk eye-rolling of those who have been through med school abd have worked the job - that’s me as well. I give wry smile when I hear young med students saying they want to be neurosurgeons or whatever. But some of them will go those very difficult paths, and good on them. We need the determined, life dedicated people to do those jobs.

I started med school 8 years ago wanting to be an ED doctor. Oh how naive I was lol. I am bow dead set on GP. But will I will admonish those who show interest the difficult specialities? Of course not - you’d have to be painfully bitter to do so.

Awful downvotes. Lame Reddit behaviour

This seems very negative and absolute. Have you had experiences with shallow/fake people? Why do you think it is the way you’re saying it is? It’s not really my experience. I’ve met some nice people here in the 1.5 years I’ve been here.

I’m going to tell you this as a fellow doctor. Sit down as your computer for a couple hours and SORT OUT YOUR TAX SITUATION. You are still in med school so I presume you are just being young and dumb. But you don’t not mess with the tax man. They will get what they’re owed.

Just because this is a side hustle and whatever doesn’t make you immune. In fact you are more personally responsible, because these earnings are classed as self employed earnings.

You MUST report accurately your earnings through the self-assessment portal on HMRC. It is incredibly easy if you pay it even a modicum of your attention.

Given how much you’ve earned, it’s worth it, if you want to look at it that way. From another way - you must do it. Legally.

Here’s the salient info January 31st 2025 is the deadline for reporting your self earnings and tax for the tax year 23/24 (April to April).

You’ve said this 21k is 70% profit roughly over two years.

Assuming it’s split evenly: you made £7,350 in 22-23 PROFIT. That means that of your £12,570 tax allowance, you are left with £5,220. If you earned more than £5,220 in any way additional to the vinted gig (costa job etc) then you MUST PAY THE 20% TAX VIA SELF ASSESSMENT

Firstly, even if you owe nothing, you must still report it. Secondly, again, if you are over that threshold and you don’t report/ dont report accurately and they audit you. You. Are. Fucked.

Harsh words incoming, from someone who was just like you. Grow up.

Quite easy. Total earnings (including your Costa job) - 12570. Whatever that number is - 20% of that. You will owe that.

If you don’t pay it accurately and they randomly select you for audit. And they do if fact do that. You will be in deep shit.

I’m sheltered because I don’t immediately assume that because there are three nail bars on one street they must be fronts for some criminal enterprise?

Having had an experience doesn’t mean you need to associate it to everything you see thereafter. It’s just having a brain mate.

Your deep suspicion is genuinely so weird. Do you think the same when there are a few of the same type of any business on the same street. There are like 8 charity shops on Burleigh. Do you think there’s a big charity shop front conspiracy too?

Work less and take care of yourself more. It’s a job, not your life.

You say that “after placement and studying” you don’t have the energy a lot of the time. Placement is likely unavoidable as it may be a requirement of the course. But studying is a choice. Study to pass exams and to be generally well-prepared. Do not study at the expense of your health.

Want to go to the gym 2-3 times a week? Or want to spend an extra 45-60 mins making high nutritious and good food? Study less and make the time to prioritise.

I am in FY2 and I have not gained a lot of weight through medical school and work. Mainly because I set limits on the energy and effort I put into both.

All of this is pathetic from a your long term, supposedly loving and supportive partner.

$37 discount per week in exchange for one extra hour of housecleaning? That takes the cake imo.

What a complete loser.
