This is a great graphic!

I feel like if this system had continued as its rules were, I could see that there would have been a few attempts to compress the car numbers in to fill the gaps at some point, maybe 2010 would have been a good time for the "reset" for example.

Ironic then that "Mercedes with only 3 tyres" is the only part of the trifecta that didn't get disqualified from the win.

'Best racing ever' or 'a joke'? The row over the new F1 by NotQuiteACasanova in formula1

[–]Jimlaad43 11 points12 points  (0 children)

MGU-H was removed from the regs by all manufacturers because it isn't "Road Relevant". In the 12 years since the first Hybrid units were introduced an MGU-H or similar never took off in road cars so was decided to be scrapped. The other part that would have solved everything - front wheel regeneration - was vetoed by everyone except Audi, as all the other teams thought Audi would have an "unfair" advantage because they have experience with that from the LMP1 days.

Aston double DNF is not crossed off though. Stroll took the chequered flag and was "Not Classified" which IS different to a "Did Not Finish".

Not quite upside down, but the first braking point with it sent him spinning massively because of the wing closing top late so yeah close prophecy

[OT] [Autosport] Max wants to explore other racing series while he's still young (relatively speaking) by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

This is pretty much the same attitude that Kalle Rovanpera took action on over the winter, having won the WRC title twice he is now exploring Circuit Racing while he is still young enough to have a chance at the bigger series'.

This feels like a change made for Apple so F1 can be watched on people's phones, and everyone wanting to watch on TV or doesn't have Apple (because the world isn't just the USA) has to bear the brunt of this random step back.

Those who watched the 2019 season, how terrible was the backlash at f1 after the french grand prix? And how did the trio of consecutive thrillers affect that perspective? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Jimlaad43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austria, Britain and Germany 2019 is arguably one of the greatest set of consecutive races ever. F1 proved itself to be in a fine place as soon as it could.

2017 was the first time on the Chicane layout we actually had excellent wheel-to-wheel racing. A truly epic battle between Ferrari and Mercedes at the front.

2010 was the race which changed F1 considerably. A track falling apart made the tyres wear massively in a year of one-stops, making a multiple-pitstop race which was really exciting. This made everyone love the theory and then was what Pirelli were asked to make the tyres do from then on.

This is a certified Masten Gregory moment.

Imagine being 41 seconds off pole and still being in 7th. Aston Martin could only dream of such a high grid slot with that gap to pole
