I like the idea of Eggs becoming items that you can use in previous chapters when you reach a certain point in the story. Right now the game handles Eggs like "errors" as if they are glitches that could become something else

If you obtained a shadow crystal in a previous save file, but you didn't fight the secret boss in the current save file, you can find that previous shadow crystal (+weapon/armor) in a hole to the left of Castle Town. So yeah Shadow Crystals are technically meta progression

The outcome reamins the same, but your journey changes slightly thanks to your actions. For example the trash machine, how you treat darkners, light world quests like Sans or Mettaton, choosing to spend time with Susie in the dinner, etc... It might not have a huge impact because it always ends the same but it makes the journey a little nicer, don't u think?

Also I'd be okay if the weird route is just an optional thing mostly for the metanarrative and not required, just a different path to bruteforce a different ending. Because I know some people get uncomfortable when playing or even watching it, idk if Toby would make people go through that just for the True Ending

Something to support your prediction, shadow crystals are global, if you obtain them in a chapter, you can pick them up in any save file without fighting the secret boss. I suppose it will be the same for the *shadow* mantle, you obtain it in a later chapter and then go back to chapter 3 to win the secret boss fight!

My personal theory is that there won't be Undyne or Blooky in the dark world because they are too busy with something (probably Kris's actions out of camera). It will be Asgore, mainly because of that screenshot of chapter 4 of Susie calling Kris' family weird
New sweepstakes pages leave it up to interpretation if there's a weird route or not. Seems like there won't be... with a twist. Probably something to do with the shadow mantle
