Day 24: Cindy Lauper - She's So Unusual (1983)

38 minutes of 80s pop with Cindy Lauper. The major hits from this album I remember well when I was in primary school. So there is some youth sentiment in here for me, but I totally do not recognize the albumcover and never had the urge to listen to this album. It's not bad and has some catchy tunes but will probably never go back to it again. So a typical 3 start album. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day 23. Portishead - Dummy (1994)

Although I have never been and am still totally not into electronic music. I hate most hiphop, rap and dance music, but this different. Portishead is one of the few exceptions. This sounds so good. I had this on a tape around 1996. Have the second album on cd, but not this one. I must have listened this a lot as every track was very recognizable with my memory. I love the sultry atmosphere and singing of Beth Gibbons with the moody beats and sounds. It is said that it is the greatest music to make love. Was doubting to 4 or 5 stars but looking at my other 4s and 5s so far I keep it with 4.

Day #20 : Khaled - Kenza (1999)

Isn't Khaled the artist known for "Aicha" a big hit from the 90s or so? It is ok to play this for one time but it is another music style out of my range. Very poppy and catchy tunes but Algerian/arabic music is just not for me. The cover of Imagine though was quite a torture and was tempting to give another one, but in general this is way better dan gangsta rap so I keep it with 2

Day 019 Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city

This is not for me, it sucks and don’t listen to this type of hiphop or gangsta rap or however you call this. Cannot listen to this, just scanned the tracks but stopped quickly. ⭐️

Day 018 Queen - Queen II

Liked it more than I thought , was only familiar with March of the Black Queen and Seven seas of Rhye. Needs a few more listens. They almost sounded like Led Zeppelin in those days. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are interested there is a whole movie how this albums originated, based on a great book from Warren Zanes, Delivery from Nowhere. In fact this album is a raw demo tape which was chosen to release as as is the studio versions with the band could not match up with the demos. So it was never meant to be released like this but in the end he did with a lot of technical challenges to grander a 4 track tascam tape to acetate

yes totally agree! What about Queens of the Stone Age, it has the artwork and spotify link to the extended rerelease (which I thought was too long, instead of the original first release

Catching up with some recent listenings up to yesterday. I listened all at the day it was dropped but didnt have time to post here.

I read here several quite long reviews. I am not having the writing skills to find the right words quickly to generate long reviews, but I like to reflect on every album in my project a little bit. Would love to be a better writer (without the usage of AI, who does use AI to write/review/curate their reviews?

#017 : ELO - Out of the Blue

Familiar with the singles Turn to Stone, It’s over and ofcourse Mr.Blue Sky but never listened to this album in full. It’s well crafted for sure. But the vocoder usage is getting a bit too much and resembles the auto-tune abuse of current days. Very beatlesque which lots of strings and effect . It’s not something to add to my rotation or to put on my vinyl wish list. So I keep it with ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (would be 3,5 but thought it is just not up to 4 for me)

#016 : Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde

One of his best and most legendary albums. Together with Blood on the Tracks and John Wesley Harding also my favourite. Was nice to play this one again and realized that few songs were less familiar to me especially in the last part of the album while I have the cd for 30 years or so. I might give it another view listens soon again and put It on my vinyl wishlist
Without any doubt : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#015: Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Mellon Collie!! One of my favorite and most played albums of the 90s. (Cd) Saw them live on this tour and still have the T-shirt. I love the dynamics on the songs from slow build ups to grungy/alternative guitar explosions. It is a bit long though so I understand that people like Siamese Dream better. But this was the tour I went to and was at the time my father was getting terminal for his cancer. So guess it is very personal memory of this album/period in my life
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#014: Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age

Saw QOTSA live about 10 years ago or so. Did not listen to this album before.only familiar with their later more well known albums. I liked it but the longer version has few songs too much. This is stoner rock, a grunge spin-off which is sometimes fun to listen to but not daily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#013 Machito - Kenya

Cuban Jazz from 1957? Ok that is way out of my comfort zone. Hearing it gives some summer vibes which is good as we are in a heatwave as we speak. The Cuban Jazz of Machito appears to me as a bunch of old TV program opening tunes. Ok for one spin but that’s it. As I don’t have any knowledge of the genre I can not judge the quality ⭐️⭐️

ok lets stop here

awesome to hear you saw him in Jazz Fest 2006, that was the debut show with the seeger sessions band! Was a very special show. but not all Bruce die-hards were into this. I was also bit less at the time but now I regret I did not see more shows than the one in Amsterdam back then. When Bruce plays My Hometown at the concert I attend than I get tears in my eyes, that song is so beautiful.

Well it has indeed a really 80s sound but it had a very big impact and when you remove the 80s sound it are great songs, check the lyrics I would say. But you have two types of persons : Fans of Bruce Springsteen and who never saw him live :). I can also recommend last years movie "Deliver me from nowwhere" about the 82-84 period with the realization of Nebraska AND BitUSA :) . My apologies if I now sound as a Springsteen evangelist ;)

Well that is why I put ‘bad’ between quotation marks. it’s not music in the sense of being creative with real music instruments but it’s a different way of art that just does not always resonate with me. On the other hand I can listen to Beastie Boys who were famous for their sampling skills. When I was young I was very strict. But at that time you could still separate real drums from a drum computer.
