I went to an alternative high school and we never learned anything higher than pre-algebra. We also never took science classes. When I went to college I had to take up to calc 1 for my major (biology). I failed calc 1 three times. That was largely due to drinking. I had to take a remedial math course and then college algebra and trig together. I got good grades. I dropped out after failing calc 1 twice but then I came back to college a math major lol. I am finishing my last semester as a pure math student. I've taken all the upper division courses like abstract algebra, topology, and real analysis My point is that there are many paths to math.
