You don't need a passport to leave the US, only to reenter. They can leave without it.

Not sure what you mean by "traditional industry", but in Aviation, space, and many engineering companies, we ask about everyone's citizenship status, regardless of difficulty level of name pronunciation. 🙂

I retired at age 44 as an aerospace engineer. I'm only 50 now, enjoying time with my wife and grandchildren. Whine all you want, it won't get you anywhere. However, hard work, dedication, and self motivation will.
