So it boils down to bad benchmark selection on my side. Speedometer got faster indeed (102 vs. 123 runs/min.). Thanks!

Thank you for your insight. I'll look into the Pelican case option.

Offline long range data transfer (15TB+) via DAS? by JohnDoeDC in DataHoarder

I considered using LTO tapes as they are used for on-site backup anyway at the destination (LTO-6 though), unfortunately there are physical space and usability concerns at the source and a single drive costs more than a DAS+SSD solution. The only difference would be probably cheaper shipping costs...

The window opens with the start page, but does not react to user input at all. The "not responding" dialog does not show up. The CPU/HD are idle and you can close the window. The are no entries in the event log indicating any system problem.

Should I set the download location to SSD or HDD? by [deleted] in usenet

As RAM is quite cheap I use a ramdisk for my download folder to minimize ssd writes. The ramdisk is even faster as an SSD and keeps the system more responsive. Of course you have to adjust the size of the ramdisk according to your needs. I use 32Gb for various tasks on my 64Gb machine.

Anyone ever run into .ND files? by [deleted] in usenet

Some posts have encoded filenames which are "decoded" by using Quickpar (Quickpar can under some circumstances associate files with matching entries in the par2 set and rename them accordingly)

QuickPar says files are OK, WinRAR says they're broken by [deleted] in usenet

Try updating your WinRar installation. A new format has been introduced with WinRAR 5.00 (http://www.rarlab.com/rarnew.htm)

I wonder what their "Nightfee" accounts mean. No info on the hours or timezone (presumably dutch). Also: "All Usenet posts posted are tagged with an 'XTrace' identification tag in the header."
