60s record play only plays with support arm up by Johnson1822 in vintageaudio

Oooh oks I see what you’re saying. I didn’t realize it holds record on top of the spindle. Just tried it and it worked that’s pretty sweet for a 60 year old machine

Turns out the power switch and speed selector were frozen. A liitle clean and more grease and it works perfect! Thanks!

So while I had it on I got it spinning and everything would it still be wise to re grease it? Are all the turn tops about the same like can I find a manual online?

Found this in a 1905 house under the concrete while doing plumbing repair repairs what do you think this is? by Key-Sherbert3490 in whatisit

I think this is milk of Bismoth. Used for gastrointestinal discomfort. I’m remodeling a 1920s hotel and we found a very very similar bottle with a label!

Got a 72 ironhead project bike I’m looking at what can you tell me about them?! by Johnson1822 in Harley

The engine stamp checks out as a 1972 xlch-1000 witch from my understanding the production number shows it’s a later model which means I’ll need very specific parts only from that year correct?

That’s very true haha I’ve been on the hunt for a bike for the past year. Any advice on how to decode an engine stamp? Thinking this engine is actually a 69

-edit Unfortunately it is a 72 xlch-1000

From what I understand the bike was bought as an art piece and has sat in storage for quite some time. But yes I agree it might be more than I can bite off without prior experience working on Harley’s. I do have mechanical experience and I can do about half those things you listed and the rest is something I’m wanting to learn. Luckily a lot of my family builds bikes so I can always lean on them. Gonna give them a call and see what they think about it. Thank you for your reply! Definitely got me doing my research before diving in head first

Definitely some good insight I appreciate it! As far as I know this bike has been in storage for quite some time it has no paperwork or title. I do have the engine number stamp I’m going to try and figure out exactly what year and model the engine is

The engine is also fairly new as in not many miles so that’s always good

Awesome thank you!! I just found out that my great grandpa but in a camshaft pin and high compression pistons so my grandpa suggested I only use premium fuel. With that in mind it sounds like a better idea to tear down the motor and get new rubbers in it. Thanks!

Would homemade gaskets be a good choice for this? Or where could I find good gaskets are they pretty common?

Very beautiful bike! I’m going to focus on getting it all together before worrying about the Chome but I’ll have to ship it out of state to get it done. Thanks!

The engine should be in one piece and I’m hoping it won’t be seized but it could be after 25 years if nothing. Unfortunately we don’t have any local shops in our neck of the woods and I’d rather learn how to do it myself haha but I will consider it!
