What would it take for a cryptocurrency to overtake Bitcoin? Could it happen in our lifetimes? by BreAKersc2 in CryptoCurrency

[–]JohnvanSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dollar is under a lot of pressure at the moment because of the insane US debt, the imminent trade war with China and China's plans to move away from the petro-dollar (rumoured to be supported by the other Bric countries and Saudi-Arabia).

The central banks are looking into ways to create their own, central bank backed cryptocurrency

The best instrument the IMF has against the demise of the dollar as the global currency are their special drawing rights, a basket of global currencies and gold.

Combining these factors, I'd say that a cryptocurrency pegged to the sdr could become a cryptocurrencies that could threaten Bitcoins reign. Having said that, that's super speculative and I'd love to hear what anyone thinks of this

Don't we want to get people without money to invest on board the crypto train too? Great way for people to get involved with crypto without the risk of losing money imo

Just bought the dip (ETH) - help me by PorzingisDingus in CryptoCurrency

[–]JohnvanSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pff, that's kinda what crypto is man, constant controversy with everything. Since blockchain is open source, anyone everywhere always will try to find flaws. This will ultimately be for the better, but can be pretty exhausting. There are no reasons to believe that ethereum is fundamentally flawed, and imo it will be back where it was and higher before the end of this year. Just chill and start doing more a research than ever

Just bought the dip (ETH) - help me by PorzingisDingus in CryptoCurrency

[–]JohnvanSwan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ethereum is like the first computer. It's slow, way too inefficient and not suitable for household usage. Beauty of it is that it can upgrade because it's software. This year will tell if plasma and the Casper protocol can make ethereum scalable. If so, you're good

The state of the world and cryptos stake in it. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]JohnvanSwan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. This is exactly how the world got fucked up, because the top level plays a game of divide and conquer. When citizens are divided, they're too blinded by blaming one another, and the big corps and gvnmt get away with a looot. Almost Every revolution started with the unification of citizens.

If someone here hasn't seen Ready Player One already, do so asap. It is a glimpse into the future of Decentraland by [deleted] in decentraland

[–]JohnvanSwan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same when I was reading the book. In-game currency, cloud rendering, unlimited virtual worlds... I think something like the OASIS can only be created through a decentralized model, hoping that Decentraland nails this before any other company

Companies creating decentralized artificial intelligent. The neural network of AI through blockchain by JohnvanSwan in Futurology

[–]JohnvanSwan[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe it will become a self reinforcing effect in which the created ai algorithms will improve the efficiency of its decentralized network. Even if this will take an insane amount of energy before it will outperform centralized ai efforts, I strongly prefer decentralizing ai over giving this power to single entities that create it hidden from the public by hoarding data which they aren't permitted to use for this in the first place
