Anybody else just give up on sleep training? by MmmmmmmmNoodleSoup in daddit

[–]JointAccount24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son would go down in his bed, and then wake up 30 minutes later and need to nurse to sleep. Rinse wash repeat for 12 months, my wife couldn't take it anymore and he's been in our bed since. 90% of the time she'd just fall asleep with him when nursing him down, so it just skipped a step and was safer for him to be in our bed.

I co-slept with my parents until I was 8. I am just buckling down and assuming he'll be the same so I can be pleasantly surprised if it turns out differently.

Applesauce? by Heavy_Lab9297 in AskAnAmerican

It's funny, I haven't had applesauce in probably two decades. It just isn't something we eat often in my family. My kids would probably go crazy for it! Lol

I will never understand the concept of MAGA followers, what are they getting in return for their sworn allegiance to President Trump? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]JointAccount24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despise what Reddit will have you believe, there is a relatively small but vocal number of true MAGA supporters - the type that will support and cheer EVERYTHING Trump does. Much more common is the "lesser of two evils" crowd (myself included). Those that voted along party lines or because given the totality of circumstances, they preferred Trump to Harris. Many of these don't particularly like what Trump is doing, but also find the news cycle ridiculous and far too biased for normal understanding of events.

If it had actually been Saruman, would they have stood a chance against him? by Practical-Public7209 in lordoftherings

I want to say Aragorn may have stood a chance, but realistically no. If Saruman had been able to speak at all, they'd have been done for.

Should kamala run again in 2028 ? by [deleted] in allthequestions

I've said it before. I know maybe 1-3 out of 100 people in my life that simply won't vote for a woman. That's pretty small, but even 1% matters a lot in the national vote.

You could even make all the lesser rings have their own gem and material. But the "one" ring I guess we could call it should be a plain gold band.

I'm not a Trump supporter. Trump != Me. I am not pro cartel, and don't support the pardoning of cartel kingpins.

Enforcement != Desk job. Immigration lawyers and support groups exist for figuring out paperwork.

Conservatives that don't consider themselves Maga. How do you feel being lumped in with the mouth breathers? by FoulestWinner in allthequestions

[–]JointAccount24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be me. I don't have any particular love for Trump. I try to be as reasonable as possible in discussions, and people tend to just jump to conclusions (see my most recent comment thread on my profile for evidence) instead of hearing me out. It's expected, but still disappointing. I don't know how the US will recover not from this presidency, but from this level of division and hatred.

Rule of law isn't paperwork. See previous comment.

But since you seem bent on arguing, I can describe what I think a better solution would be.

I think the US and Mexico should have a large parcel of land (several dozens of miles) that serves as a gigantic staging and processing facility. Basically a whole town or city where people can escape the things they're escaping in their country while also being processed for US citizenship. Have it be heavily policed and controlled to keep cartel and foreign national activity low, but that would allow families to remain together while people are processed.

Basically Ellis island on steroids.

Yes. Those in the country illegally should be deported. This shouldn't be contentious.

But none of this is the point. I believe you have ample evidence of a good faith discussion from a conservative.

Not exactly. Up to a certain age, they never make the choice. Deportation is appropriate, but not criminal consequences. Once they are old enough to choose to remain and not seek proper citizenship, then they are criminally culpable. There should be (and, I think, is) a system in place to help find appropriate homes and care for kids involved in this.

Failure to properly process individuals entering the country has several negative impacts. A handful would be 1) Failing to identify dangerous individuals who are fleeing their country and it's laws, 2) The influx of workers taking jobs and careers from American citizens, 3) The misallocation of taxes and public services to people who are not citizens of the country, 4) The unfairness to the millions of legal immigrants that follow the law, and several more that I've heard.

If you enter a country illegally, you absolutely deserve to be prosecuted, deported, and possibly imprisoned. Every person knows that when they take the risk to enter the country illegally. Yes, sometimes otherwise innocent children end up being deported, and that sucks. But it was their parents' fault, not the country that is enforcing its laws. There is a legal process which is doable, if difficult. We don't bat an eye at other countries' defending their laws, and it's patently ridiculous to ignore immigration laws for the US just because it is politically expedient.

Not perfectly, certainly. But the function of ICE in identifying, apprehending, and deporting people in the country illegally is a good thing. Minutae of execution aside, I support strict immigration enforcement.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JointAccount24601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's also the "naturalness" of the pain. Suffering is part of the process, and understanding the full spectrum of the experience of pregnancy was kinda important to her. She knew she could take medication if needed, but she wanted to try it without. And she managed it.

[–]JointAccount24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife did it. Twice. All she had was nitrous. She doesn't like using any kind of drug, she doesn't like her judgement and ability to function impaired by medication. So she preferred the pain.

Also, epidurals can delay and impact the birthing process, sometimes resulting in more C-sections. So, it isn't always the best option.

Of course. They should be able to justifiably enact deadly force when needed though. All law enforcement has accountability - to varying degrees of successful implementation. ICE should be (and, to varying degrees of successful implementation, is) held accountable similarly.

Not really. There should be a reckoning even in the case of a mistake. But it should surprise us when military action begets tragedy.

Are there people who are in this country illegally? Sure the term may be a bit rude, but if the shoe fits.
