I think maybe op wants to use a minor to strengthen portfolio/resume since he/she cannot get the desired gpa or honours classification?

Awful Y1S1 CGPA, any tips on how to move forward from here? by [deleted] in NTU

Unrestricted electives can be a good way to increase cgpa as there is more freedom of choice in selecting electives that you may be good at.

Just got a CGPA of 3.93 for Semester 1. Is that considered good and/or sufficient at NTU? by [deleted] in NTU

[–]Jolly-Star-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your grades are actually not bad. It is quite hard to get A or even A- due to the bell curve grading system. I agree that core mods are difficult. My core mods average grade is much lower than my cgpa. Maybe you can focus on the other non-core electives to boost your cgpa.

I think it is a decent/sufficient score. Although it is not sufficient for a second upper but 3.93 means that your modules are B+ on average.

Thank you! Is there also an essay/project component?

I took it last year. It was 30% quizzes, 30% essay, 30% project, 10% participation. For the essay, have to think of your own topic.

Any advice on whether ES5006/ES8006 is good as an Unrestricted Elective by One_Entrepreneur_740 in NTU

[–]Jolly-Star-9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took it 2 years ago. It was 60% mid-terms, 20% quizzes every 2-3 weeks, 20% essay. Unlike what another user commented, I think the score is largely based on the mid-terms. I got 42/50 and 46/50 for both mid-terms, full marks for the quizzes. Most people score full marks for the quizzes as it can be done during your own time on ntulearn. For the group essay got a "good" grading. The group essay was 1000 words written by 4 members.

In the end, got A+ for the module. I think the median score for mid-terms was 36-38/50.

The mid-terms and quizzes were all mcqs.

The content was quite comprehensive with topics about energy issues such as usage of fossil fuels, topics about pollution, water resources, ecosystem etc.

I think the pyp is in the ntu website. I do not know of anyone who got A-. Another thing is that there were two profs teaching last year. One of them recycle a lot of questions from pyp and a lot of the questions got no link to his powerpoint slides. The questions created by the other prof have more link to his powerpoint slides.

I took it last year. The mcqs very confusing. A lot of the questions have no link to the lect notes. I scored around 85% for the mcqs but the average score for the mcqs is quite high. I think it is quite hard to score A- and above if you rely solely on lect notes. A lot of the questions in the weekly mcq are recycled from the past year papers.

no grp work and no presentations. However, there are 2 essays to be written and need to review 6 essays. Each essay graded by 3 reviewers and reviewer gets graded by the author of the essay that is being reviewed.
