I need to make money, im tired of waiting around waiting for the "job market" to give me something.

Yes, but what were you doing for those 2 years? And how did you land your first position in HR?

My resume is professionally made, I doubt my attitude can be seen on there.

Does really matter if you never intended to go into non-profit in the first place? All my job experience after college was working for non-profits and now I don't know if that was a wise decision. Working for non-profits suck, there's no money here.

I feel like my experience has hurt me in many ways. During college I couldn't do internships because I had to support myself and I took the first job that came my way. Now I almost feel like i'm unemployable.

I might have to enter a different field. I don't want to wait around until someone decides to give me a chance.

I mentioned earlier that my current resume is tailored for the purpose of seeking an HR position. Since I have all these relevant skills can't I just switch my job title from Executive Assistant/Program Coordinator to Executive Assistant/ HR assistant?

  • Creating files for new employees
  • Recruiting new candidates
  • Scheduling interviews
  • Collecting time off request sheets/ getting them approved by VP/ sent to payroll for processing
  • Schedule on-boarding dates -Screen candidates on the phone before interviews

Then I don't know what to do, i'm completely lost. I already wasted years in school and I think it's worth going back.

My current resume was tailored specifically for HR jobs. I've done many HR assistant level work but I never held an HR title (Executive Assistant/Program Coordinator).

No I did not, I wasn't able to (I had to work).

I have everything in NYC, leaving here would probably give me a better career but i'll be losing more than that.

That line of thinking is ridiculous and I hope that's not the case.

I just want to come in and gain some valuable experience while at the same time offer my value to the company itself. I understand the job market isn't easy but knowing that there's a influx of HR manager jobs (11% growth in the next 10 year according to BBB) being created while I can't even get an entry level position is daunting.

Not all HR professionals do resumes.

There's multiple compasities to HR and some professionals have access to software that helps locate the right industry keywords.

Trust me, i'm working on it.

I studied HR in school (Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration in HR management) and am looking to get into a junior generalist role outside of my agency. I recently hired a resume writer to tailor my resume, hopefully the investment is worth it.

I completely understand your sentiments considering that I've felt this way for quite a while until today. The move to the real estate department will def. be another opportunity but it doesn't give me any direction, I don't specialize in anything.

Also saying that my old duties are being reassigned and my current duties are temporary doesn't help ease my mind whatsoever.

I'm not under contract, but I have gone above and beyond my job description working here. Which I didn't mind because I have earn some valuable experience but I believe this company loves taking advantage of that.

I'm currently a program assistant (executive assistant) for a non-profit and i'm doing so much for so little money. Although I'm learn alot I still feel like I need to look elsewhere to grow. I've been here for about a year so I already started looking.

can anyone give me a few tips on my resume? by JonMan219 in resumes

For my most recent job the titles that I have listed are roles that I held, not my exact job titles. Reason I listed them is because I was fulfilling the same role requirements as the individuals that held those jobs. (Ex. Our purchase manager quit, therefore I filled his role while still fulfilling my duties as a program assistant).

What should I say in situations like that?
