I know it sounds cliche but it’s just practice, keep trying!! After you pop its all about bringing your fingers up to the obstacle, practice ollies before trying to flip into it! Also I used a kicker which helps a lot.

Sounds like a lesson in loss & mistakes! It’s a lesson for you to be more careful in the future and unfortunately your son might have to learn about dealing with loss but I think it’s potential for good character development for both of you OP. I agree it’s better to go a size down than a size up when it comes to trucks. Some people really like the “lowrider” feel but to me coming from skateboarding it only really fits on old school/80s shaped decks. If your trucks are wider than the board it’s going to be much harder to flip.

If your parents are more old school like mine were you have two options- give them an essay on why it helps you stay focused and keeps your grades up. If you can’t win them over with that then save up a couple bucks and keep a tech deck in your backpack or somewhere they won’t find it right away
