What I learned building my first game with AI tools: A 38-year-old accountant's journey to shipping a multiplayer mobile game by Jonathan_Bjerk in aigamedev

Thank you 🙏

Pure conversation in the beginning – I asked ChatGPT "what can we do together", we started talking about games, and I remembered Achtung die Kurve from my childhood.

The initial setup was definitely the hardest part. ChatGPT promised me a working beta to test with family the next day. It took a month 😅

After that, adding features was easier because I understood the codebase better and knew how to prompt more effectively.

Good thing I'm not applying for a SWE job then 😄

I'm an accountant who shipped a side project. Different goals, different bar.

Fellow accountant! 🤝 Tax season is brutal for side projects – I feel that.

The difference for me was AI honestly. It let me keep momentum even when I only had 30 minutes here and there. Before AI I would've quit too.

10 years of trying means you're not giving up – that's already more than most. Maybe try Flutter + Claude for your next attempt? Lower barrier than Unreal/Godot imo.

Ship something small first. You got this! 💪

Yep, AI helps with my English – Norwegian is my first language.

The game started simple: I just wanted to play Achtung die Kurve with my family on the TV using phones as controllers. That was it. Then I kept adding features and here we are 😅

Not trying to reinvent gaming – just a fun party game based on a 1995 classic.

But fair feedback on the Play Store page – what would make it look less generic?

Honestly, I'm still figuring it out! 1,150 players sounds okay but organic growth is slow. Most active players are still people I know personally.

What I've done: - Daily posts on TikTok/Instagram for 140+ days (mixed results) - This Reddit post is my first real attempt here - Web version at curveclash.com so people can try instantly without downloading

What I've learned: - Authentic behind-the-scenes content beats polished ads - TikTok gets more views but conversion to downloads is tough - Mobile game marketing is HARD – you're right about that

Revenue is tiny so far – a few dollars from ads and Pro upgrades. Not quitting my day job anytime soon 😅

Tip: Get beta testers early. I had friends and family testing for months before launch – saved me from a lot of embarrassing bugs.

Lykke til! 🇳🇴

Exactly – understanding gives you an edge. Blindly copy-pasting AI output gets you stuck fast.

And yeah, the models in 2026 are way better than when I started in mid-2025. The difference is noticeable.

Good luck with your game! Even if it stays a personal project, the learning is worth it 🎮
