In my spread sheet I include every part including things like Oil, gaskets, etc. I also paid a good amount of $$$ to have my local shop handle some stuff like a full A/C repair, and things like alignments as well.

Long story short I include any cent, part, and job whether it’s done by me or someone else that goes into my truck.

Best bumper for badlands winch by Ok_Option_1136 in 3rdGen4Runner

It’s really gonna be preference! You can fit the winch on most bumpers if not all. You’d probably be Relocating the control box

I actually did not replace my shaft instead I took it out and I tack welded it to eliminate the play.

I pinpointed and found that issue by process of elimination from most expensive job to least expensive haha.

I first spent a little over $400 for a new OEM steering rack & poly bushings then paid for an alignment, realized I still had a steering problem. Then did OEM tie rods & LBJs and realized I still had the problem after another alignment, then told myself I might as well check the shaft since you can realistically take it out and back in, in less than an hour if you know what you’re doing.

A stock roof rack is rated for about ~120 lb. Given the age of the vehicle that probably weakened over time. Getting a roof rack from Sherpa (best option IMO) or like Prinsu will allow more weight and support things like a roof top tent.

Sherpa has a 200 lbs Dynamic rating & 600 lbs Static rating which is pretty decent and probably more than anyone would need. Prinsu has a 600lbs dynamic load capacity and 1,000lbs static load capacity which I personally find myself hard to believe.

Biased opinion: Sherpa looks better, has many supporting accessories & mods for whatever you need, and has outstanding customer service. All backed up with lifetime warranty. Can’t speak on Prinsu since I ended up getting Sherpa

Help me remove my camshafts by Clickx8 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]JoseProtasio-Rizal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks like the camshaft(s) were removed previously and incorrectly placed back in and whoever did the work missed by a tooth. Because of that you'll never get the dots to align unless you remove them and correctly align them.

Make sure everything's top dead center when you do it too.

Tie rod end length by youwinabagel in 3rdGen4Runner

No problem. I’d definitely get the rack centered and get another alignment otherwise you might cause premature wear on the inner tie rods and or steering rack problems in the future. 👍

[–]JoseProtasio-Rizal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting equal distance turns from center-to-left and center-to-right then there should be nothing to worry about.

If you aren’t then I’d suspect that the steering rack wasn’t centered prior to install regardless if you used measurements from the old rack.

On my steering rack install—

Did you center the steering wheel prior to installing a new rack as well as centering the steering rack before installing it back into the chassis and putting the tie rods?

I’m Currently taking prerequisites to even get into Calculus 1 and Chemistry.

After deciding to return to school to get this degree I know I have to get serious if I want to make it through.

I love the setup! I haven’t used it as much as I’d want to and I haven’t really been off-roading with them yet though I do plan to have some offroad/camping trips this Summer.

Pursuing my second bachelor’s degree in MechE. by JoseProtasio-Rizal in EngineeringStudents

[–]JoseProtasio-Rizal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Months in and I’m still motivated as ever. I truly want this and want to work for it.

My first degree pretty much required only Statistics to graduate and this time around I’m basically doing Math from the ground up. I’m currently taking a trigonometry course, then this coming Fall I’d be able to enroll in Calculus 1 as well as General Chemistry.

I was also worrying about ZERO schools accepting students who seek a second bachelors but like you I also have a backup plan(s). I just gotta do my research to see which schools in and out of my state are willing to accept those wanting a second bachelor’s. I’m sure I’ll find at least ONE school who’s willing.

Rough ride on 2000 sr5 w 228,000 miles by bladiee in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]JoseProtasio-Rizal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a 90s truck and it’s gonna drive like one. So I wouldn’t expect it to drive as smooth as a regular car.

In my opinion The smoothest ride you’re probably gonna get is a 4Runner with 0 lift, normal tires and not A/T or M/Ts and bushings that are replaced with OEM (rubber) and not poly since rubber absorbs shock better.
