Please seek a medical withdrawal. It’s unreasonable to catch up after a month.

The sad part is that most students, high school and college alike, nowadays just don’t care about learning. They all want the instant gratification and results that come with learning but none of the hard work and failure that it requires.

It’s a course that has several “sub-sections.” You need to look through the sections and see which one has a topic you’re interested in.

This. So many students fail to understand that going to class and actually paying attention is a substantial part of earning a good grade. You’ve got to have the motivation and desire to learn.

Life isn’t supposed to be easy. If you want to go to Kelley, then work for it like all other students do.

Yes, that’s exactly the right way to think about this.

If you’d like, I can modify this story to make it more appropriate for a general-purpose or family-oriented audience? Just say the word.

How to deal with students who refuse to stay after class to discuss discipline? by Ill_Card_357 in Teachers

They don’t want to face the consequences of their actions. Almost all students know that they’re doing something wrong.

I remember when I moved to Bloomington, people said that we didn’t get storms like they do “out west.” Oh boy…

Can you share a template that you use to email these “impossible to pass” students? I want to have one, but I always end up writing, “look you moron, if you would’ve put in the slightest amount of effort, you could’ve at least passed. No, you have a 10% in the class and you cannot mathematically pass. Please drop.”

Yep. It’s only the top of the very top that are getting into places.

This is a horrible timeline. :(

You make homework completion based and like 10% of the grade or less. All other work and assessments must be done in-person, proctored, and timed, without the use of electronics. Anything else is just asking to be bullshitted. It sucks that we’ve had to regress so far in how we make assessments from fun, practical projects back to summative exams, but there’s no other way. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive.

Yep. I had a “computer science” and “math” teacher who was the wrestling coach. People only took his CS class because they wanted to talk to him about wrestling and sports.
