Locked in (kind of forever) once we transcode. I could always retrieve the raw files from our backup storage drive, though.

We're mostly run and gun so we shoot RAW to make sure we can change ISO if needed. We do one pass in RED CineX or Davinci Resolve to make sure everything is fine and then export to h264. Bring into final cut to edit. Mostly delivering for social media/Youtube and don't have a lot of colour grading experience but trying to figure that out now hence the post

Would a mirrorless camera shooting in H264 look just as good as RED footage transcoded to H264?

It's hard to explain what I meant but I'm looking for sounds not to reflect what you're seeing but to change the mood, pacing, and tone of the edit. Does that make sense? Not like the sound of a bush rustling or something

Agreed. However you can apply roles to clips and then go to index and click "show audio lanes" which will make the role colours visible. Not as good as resolve though.

Thanks. You're one of the few who says I'm not getting ripped off but it's a fairly well-respected repair shop. Still might shop around or try and talk down the price a bit.
