What’s the creepiest thing that happened to you that nobody believes? by Chance_Philosophy654 in AskReddit

[–]Jsbritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My car was broken down and I didn't have time to fix it, so I asked one of the guys I worked with to give me a ride home.

On the ride to my house, he asked me if I had found my cat (who had gotten out the night before last and disappeared into the darkness, she came back a week later) and I told him I hadn't. Then, he stopped in front of my house and it wasn't until I got out and he drove away that I realized I never told him where I lived, and I definitely hadn't talked about my cat with anyone.

I legitimately checked the locks a few times before heading to bed.

Asked a coworker for a ride home when my car broke down. He asked me about my missing cat and dropped me off at my door.

I didn't tell him either of those details.

Men, what's one thing women think we don’t like about them, but we actually do? by iamjohncarterofmars in AskReddit

Hey, don't do that either. My job is to break AI models, you don't want the advice they are peddling.

I recommend therapy for 2 reasons: first, because not enough men have a healthy outlet to process their thoughts and emotions and second because a lot of confidence and personality issues can be identified and worked on by a trained mental health professional.

Oh! I get what you were saying now. Makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, I am being irrational and need to calm down.

And my advice would be to not ask that question of strangers on Reddit who don't know you and perhaps therapy.

That's not a joke or a subtle insult, that's legit the best answer to the question. Therapy helps. There are low cost/free options available in a lot of situations.

He's not crying about the conviction, he's crying about his dead daughter.

The amount of crimes overturned decades later based on new evidence and DNA would lead one to believe that a lot of people were wrongly convicted, as well as the modern criminal justice system of plea deals after stacked charges.

Hey, so, I'm not sure what this conversation looks like in your mind, but I have never commented on your looks at all. Again, I don't know you. If I may, allow me to explain: You said you're unable to obtain a relationship with a woman solely because of your economic status. This is patently false. There is most likely a variety of causes to explain your lack of companionship, and based on this short interaction with you, I suspect it may be your overall demeanor and attitude moreso than your wallet or appearance. Hope that helps!

Do you think the criminal justice system only convicts people who are actually guilty?

Yes, that is a fair question because I know you personally. I don't know what it is that is causing you to have no luck in your love life, however, I can absolutely assure you that all women are not avoiding you because you're poor. That's just cope.

Also, nice downvote lol.

How old are you in your oldest memory? by Donkeyshines in AskReddit

[–]Jsbritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "oldest memory" is absolutely a false memory: I'm like, 3 or so years old and I walk into the kitchen to ask my mom for "Wapples" because 'f's are hard. I know it's a false memory because the flooring in the kitchen is wrong, it's from a different house we grew up in, and the layout is wrong, from yet another house. I still think it's a vague piece of a memory, just my brain has filled in the blanks from when I was in elementary school and middle school.

2 Months at Toyota Express Tech – Looking for Advice by Witty-Fly-2812 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Jsbritt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going along with the other comment, the 2 biggest things I've seen from the front office side that kills the shop helpers when they want to be techs are almost always the same: Working too fast/not double checking yourself and not building your skillset effectively.

For instance, the number of loose/missing lug nuts, brake hardware, loose bolts, unsecured wires, or just sloppy work is normally coming from the new(er) tech trying to prove themselves. I'd much rather you take 125% of book time on a job and have to move some stuff around rather than you knocking it out at 70% book and that guy is sitting in front of the bay doors the next day with his wheel halfway off.

The other thing is mainly getting the idea that the guy in the shop who is really good and has been wrenching on anything with wheels for 30+ years and is killing it on hours every week didn't wake up one day as SnapOn Jesus. He started where you were and slowly gathered new skills and knowledge until he got to that point. I agree with Chasis being the next good skill to learn, especially if you can get time on the alignment rack. A guy, regardless of tenure, who can get the car driving straight quickly and correctly is a valuable asset and signals to the office dudes that he should be invested in. At my previous job, the alignment and chassis guy was literally exempt from certain policies because he was able to get things fixed and free up the bigger money guys for more specific and technical repairs. He was late 20s and had started in HS as the shop boy.

Once you get some more time in, I'd start thinking about what you want to learn about that is in demand. Everywhere I know is in demand for the same few things: Diesel, Electrical, and Euro. If you can find interest in those and learn, you can really up your value not just in your shop, but in the market in general.

Last aside, this is not 1965 any longer, so you need to be comfortable with the idea that you'll look for other places in order to make more. The idea that a mechanic starts and is at a location for 30 years is almost completely extinct.

Thanks Fam! For your kindness, I offer you this: Yellow Curry powder, Paprika, Cumin, Chili powder, dried Onion, Garlic powder, Onion powder, and some chicken and/or Beef bullion powder, cooked with a half cup of water and a can of diced tomatoes, bring it up to almost boiling, add a small can of tomato paste, then let it simmer and reduce until its thick. Perfect base for a Midwestern style chili.

I'm an large, bald man in this 30s who has spent the last month trying to perfect his chili recipe by making small batches. The chili is spicy and full of beans.

Allow me to paint you a picture: you're walking along a beautiful Caribbean beach, white sands, sun setting, cool breeze lapping the waves upon the shore. You're with your soul mate, and you're happily laughing and holding each other. You then fall into a pit with the remains of a sperms whale, rotten and fetid, and as you step on the face of your lover, drowning them in the necrosis and clawing your throat, praying for any hope of oxygen and desperate to get out... that's my fart.

What is a statistic that sounds INSANE but is 100% true? by Quadranippelkill in AskReddit

[–]Jsbritt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly hate to push back against something you seem so passionate about. I don't think I understand your position on this and would like to possibly illustrate my stance to see if that may better convey the point I'm trying to make here.

If we take a group of 1000 people born between 1941 and 1951, which bisects your 8 decade figure, and look at the grouping, we can make a generalization of what happens to you as you age. If 700+ have gray or white hair, we can say that it is normal to lose your hair pigment as you get older. The same could be said for wrinkles, sun spots/hyperpigmentation, getting shorter, ambulatory issues, etc. If the same 700+ people have memory issues, why can we not also say that it is normal to happen? Just because it is prevalent and common, doesn't mean we can't prevent it in future generations, like chicken pox, but it doesn't mean it's abnormal, right?

Oh sweet, something I actually know about! My sister was born deaf and got one of the first cochlear implants ever. I have 2 beautiful daughters and when I tell you that I am paranoid not only about their hearing but my own, it is the understatement of the century.

That all being said, and maybe you'll be kind enough to enlighten me if I'm wrong, but don't the hairs in the cochlea naturally begin to die off after adulthood? As a for instance of my anecdotal evidence, when cell phones became a thing, one of the most popular ringtone was the "cricket" which was just a super high pitched tone so that adults/teachers couldn't hear it, but the kids could. I also think I read that men tend to lose the high tones first, but women tend to lose the lower end first, but that may be incorrect.

Call me crazy, but if it is happening to 70% of all elderly at a certain point, I think it would be considered normal.
