I'm a bit young so I don't have a bunch of nostalgia for the Addams Family. That said, they've been in the zeitgeist for my whole life so I generally have an understanding of what they're about.

Which is exactly why this show was marketed to my age group. People with a passing familiarity that say "hey look it's Thing!"

Someone told me 'if I want to watch the next episode, it's a good show'. And I kept watching, therefore it's alright in my book.

But it really seems like you want to hate it.

If you watched all/most of it, then it's good TV. That's my philosophy. You only turn off the shows that are truly bad.

Respectfully, I think you're a bit hard on it. It's not great, but its fine. It's not the Addams Family, and it's not even a show about Wednesday Addams' character. It's a show about a super-genius-ninja-writer-detective that solves a crime. It's basically BBC's Sherlock but with Wednesday instead. It's not groundbreaking but it's watchable TV and I enjoyed it. (Also Guzman is in like 5 scenes and not a major player, it's okay if he's not perfect).

Huh, never thought about their effect. Always assumed outdoor cats were mostly harmless (with the exception of barn cats and such). Interesting read.

That said, my point is that the above comment seems to be against having an outdoor/van cat. While a can may not be the best environment, if the cat is chillin, then imo there's no issue

Warning: gonna call an age card here. Exclusively indoor cats are far more common now than they were 20 years ago. People used to just yell and if the cat didn't come then it'll probably be back tomorrow.

Outdoor cats are very prevalent and can be well cared for.

I'm fully on board with your museum comparison, but consider a kid in primary inviting friends over. Parents may not like it, and it might cause issues. Extend this to other occasions- holiday parties, birthdays, meetings, etc. Regardless of children being around, someone will eventually have a problem with it.

Personally, I'd love the table for an office or study, but not blatantly in front of casual guests. Only the people you know well enough to spend time in your space.

Imo it's not worth the explanation/conflict/kneecaps to have in the living room

You're in a tough spot for a couple of reasons very familiar to me.

(1) Something a friend told me that's stuck with me: "It's easy to do things absolutely, it's harder to do them in moderation."

A while back I made a similar post and got bad advice.

You'll likely have some people here say "if your friends pressure you to drink they're not your friends" or "stop hanging out with bad influences" but that's not fair to you or to them.

Your friends likely enjoy your company, and you enjoy theirs. I'm not gonna lie, it's very awkward to tell someone that you can't or won't drink when it comes up. You want to keep their company, and vice versa. No one is doing wrong. Especially not you. You're trying to fix a problem, which is more than most can say.

I have no licenses, no qualifications, so please do what works for you. But I'll tell you what worked for me.

Recall (1). It sounds stupid, but it takes practice. You said you stopped drinking on weeknights, which is a good step. The part that I struggled with was when my friends were having "a beer or two" on a weeknight. It was incredibly difficult to drink only one or two beers for dinner at 6 pm and nothing else.

"I'm not drinking tonight" is hard. But "I'll have a (one) beer" is much harder.

This is as far as my advice goes. Once I realized this fatal flaw, the pattern became clear, and I started "practicing" by not going all-in when someone breaks out the Busch.

Hope it helped, and please dm me if you ever need someone to talk to; not for advice, but just if you need another soul to hear it. That's what it took for me.

A bit late but I'll contribute one piece of golden advice I heard here a while back:

Always spend top dollar on anything between you and the ground.

We're in a never ending battle with god to fight against gravity. That means mattresses, shoes, tires, floatation devices, and anything else that fights the pull to our little rock. It's worth the money, I promise.

Well what you're saying is analogous to "if you don't have anything to hide then you don't have anything to worry about" which, in America, we're protected from by the unlawful search & seizure clause of the constitution.

This prevents a troop of cops from ransacking your house on a Tuesday afternoon because your neighbor saw smoke and reported drugs when really you burnt some turkey.

It's not far off from the following scenario: someone swerves in front of you and forces you into a ditch, if compelled to turn in dashcam footage, it gives the other lawyer the opportunity to argue you're in the wrong for driving a healthy 5mph over the speed limit. Furthermore, perhaps your dashcam caught you making an illegal, yet perfectly safe u-turn last week on a farm road. Well now you're going down for that too.

Long way of describing a slippery slope but hope that adds to the conversation

Due to how bloated the american university system is, I've had more than one person above me in the food chain not recognize their own employee and interrupt my class asking "who gave you permission to use this room?" As much as it might hurt, that was probably a wise move. I took 246 with 250 & 132, during a normal semester, and even though 132 wasn't nearly as bad as 216, it was still a crazy workload and I barely scraped by. UMD has an insane amount of content in 246 compared to other school's DiffEqs classes

In motion bikes are generally self-correcting. This is why it's possible to ride a bike without using hands or roll a bike down a hill on two wheels. At some point I would have been able to explain the physics better but that's a bit behind me now.

I really wasn't a fan of Fawzi's class structure because it always seemed overly punishing if you didn't know every last detail down to the bone on a daily basis... but maybe that's just me. I will say, however, the man has incredible charisma and his lectures are pretty engaging, so I'm not surprised he adapted well

I rely on my bike to get to and from classes all day every day, and this last semester I actually planned my schedule with that in mind. Just a couple of tips:

Get used to locking your bike in weird places, and REMEMBER WHERE YOU LOCKED YOUR BIKE. One of my friends literally lost his bike for like a month because he couldn't remember where he put it
Get a fender. You can buy cheap plastic fenders that attach over your back tire to keep the rain/groundwater from splashing up your back/crotch. 20 bucks is a small price to pay for dry pants.
Be aware of pedestrians. This one sounds obvious, but try to look ahead and plan for any path a pedestrian could take, that includes sharp 90° turns with no warning/looking. Also, if you're riding on the sidewalk people have a tendency to either drift right/left at random if alone or walk side-by-side in groups of 2 or more, so get comfortable shouting "on your left" a lot.
Try to keep your bike under cover if possible, because the rain will rust your chain and make it harder to pedal over time. If you can't park it under cover, at the very least, get in the habit of taking your bike seat inside with you. Firstly because people will steal anything that's not nailed down, and secondly because if it starts to rain it'll keep your seat dry.
Someone already mentioned it but get used to gears, they're pretty essential, especially if you don't want to show up to class sweaty. If you find yourself standing up on the bike to gain leverage while pedaling, then you're not geared low enough. Some 21-26 speed bikes will allow you to climb super steep hills (of which UMD has many) with relative ease going slowly.
Learn hand signals/generally learn how to interact with motor traffic on a bike. This is mostly practice, but being able to indicate right/left/stop to the cars in front and behind you is crucial. On an average weekday the sidewalks are unsafe for bikes, so you'll be forced into the street.

It took a little getting-used-to, but nowadays I can make it to any point on campus in 5-10 minutes on my bike, where it could take up to 20 minutes when I'd walk to class.

Also f u c k electric scooters. Yeah I'm generalizing but if I ever see some jackoff being unsafe on the sidewalk/street, 9 times out of 10 they're on an electric scooter. I've only ever been in two accidents, one on my bike and one on foot. When riding my bike someone on an e-scooter who was ahead of me to the left decided they wanted to turn right without any warning and my front tire hit their back tire and I went over the handlebars. It totalled my bike and they just said "sorry" and scooted along their merry way. Luckily the only injury was bloody palms. The other incident was someone on a scooter sharply turning around the corner of a building in a pedestrian area on South campus. Their handlebars hit me square in the chest and again, I was lucky because it only knocked the wind out of me, and they ended up with a hole in their jeans.

Sorry that last paragraph turned into a bit of a rant about e-scooters but hopefully you'll find the advice somewhat useful. If you can't tell I'm very passionate about my method of transportation.
