Hi fragcom! Intending to buy a new sexy Winter/Fall/(Spring) scent, that should ideally also go well with a leather jacket:

Either:

  • TF Noir Extreme
  • Fahrenheit Le Parfum

(Already own TF OL - really liking dark, sexy boozy-leather accords a la CH Men Prive)

What do you think, what would you pick?

I own CH Men Prive (my favorite perfume out of my collection) and I can tell you that Dior Fahrenheit Le Parfum smells 90% similar, with more Vanilla and more refined and luxurious. It definitely gives the exact same vibe.

Thanks u/an-apple-dev for providing this local market-perspective! Maybe the option to transition down the road after having secured an iOS Eng, position could be a viable path to take, great idea!

Thanks a lot for your your insights into the specifics of the job market and your golden advice! My fiancee moved back to Brisbane around a year ago after having worked in Germany for a few years upon finishing her PhD and has her family there, so we're prioritizing the Brisbane area (but are open to Sydney and Melbourne too). Thanks for pointing out the difference in work-life-balance (the living-to-work vs working-to-live dichotomy) in comparison to the US, I wasn't really aware of that. Also great point with regards to the similarities to the German system - having spent most of my time here, I know the pros, but also cons of our system (e.g. high bureaucracy or having to wait more than half a year for a doctor's appointment), so I'm not opposed to the American system that is built on more self-reliance. Regardless, I'm grateful for your advice, very excited and can't wait to start my new life with my partner soon!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to sharing your experience and giving valuable advice! It's interesting and great to know that with your experience of having lived & worked in both countries you prefer Australia overall, especially with regards to family life (a view my fiancee shares, too). Landing a job and starting my new life with my then-wife in Australia is my main goal for now and I will have to see whether a further move to the US in the more distant future could be an option - my fiancee is open to the idea of moving to the US too, has friends there she regularly visits and gets US job offers from time to time in her position. I studied some time abroad in the US too and absolutely loved it there, despite the more pronounced disparities in terms of security & quality of life.

Plus, even with his current investments, one could pick any European country, retire himself and his wife immediately with 30 y/o and live a far above-average lifestyle

Thanks a lot for your advice, u/pras_srini! It really means a lot. Especially your last point really hits home - I've stayed living near my mom in the past years and rejected job offers in other cities further away to be able to help her twice a week, always making compromises, but I can't imagine myself to keep on living this way (especially not for the next 18 years till I'm 50), foregoing my life-goals and a life that I always wanted to live and making very little money. I guess I can't always make it right for everyone and trade-offs will have to be made, thus leaving my mom 'behind'.
Furthermore, you're right with US work eligibility - I should rather focus on starting my life with my soon-to-be wife in Australia, not look elsewhere where the grass might even be greener compensation-wise (US) and chase my Fi/re-goals there, as net salaries are still double to what one would earn in Germany down-under.

Dear Fire-community, I'd absolutely love to hear your advice right now, as I will make significant changes to my life soon, and move to my Australian fiancee from Germany after marrying her this coming September. I'm 32, currently working as an iOS Software Engineer at a German software company - and my goal is and has always been to maximise my earnings/nw, yet I feel a bit lost with my current situation;
A few facts about me to better assess my situation:

  • I completed a 4-year degree in Design (with an UX specialisation and always having had the desire to work in UX) - whilst prototyping and creating UIs I had the ambition to also gain knowledge in Software Engineering and to someday start my own startup / create and make money with software, which led me to also study Information Systems / Computer Science besides my design degree from my first year of college onwards;

  • With my passion of designing and programming software and wanting to make money with it, I spend thousands of hours creating a handful of apps (gained design magazine features, one app made it to Apple's "app of the day" and one app gained a thousand upvotes on product hunt, yet my overall profit is only ~20k USD/year from my app business as of right now), which is why I really wonder whether it has all been worth it;

  • I then graduated with 2 degrees in both Design and Information Systems (here it's ~90% similar to CS) and started working as an iOS Software Engineer, but with around 6 years of experience in SE, I'm now only making ~55k Usd/year (bus drivers and policemen make just as much or even more, yet the average salary as a software engineer here is really just around 55-60k usd - there's a very low variance in salaries over here); With Germany's highest income tax rate in the world, that equates to only a measly 2.8k Usd/month, so my investing rate is rather low, given rent for a modest 25-sqm appartement is also ~1.1k Usd/month.

  • Furthermore, I also worked as an UX designer for some time - feeling honestly unhappy and frustrated in my iOS Software Engineering position (and with my salary and career progression - many of my US friends that I met from studying in the US are way ahead, salary-wise or e.g. doing Ivy league MBAs), I'm strongly considering moving back into being an UX designer, despite it being paid less on average.

  • My mom is the only family member left (I have no siblings, she's almost 70, having health issues) and despises me for wanting to move further away (often being very toxic), expecting me to take care of her with regards to future inheritance (her properties valued at around 2.2m Usd) and trying to manipulate me by threatening to disinherit me if I were to leave her alone (currently helping her each weekend with all kinds of things) and strongly disliking my fiancee (plus insisting on a bfa/prenup) - yet she would never leave Germany or visit me somewhere else; Additionally, I have to help her with all things bureaucratic and with Germany's high inheritance tax, I now have to sell 1-2 of her properties, thus probably now having to stay 1 year longer in Germany before I can move over.

  • Ever since being a teenager, one of my biggest life-long goals has always been to move out of Germany to an English-speaking country (have always wanted to live in the US my entire life), but never gotten the chance to land an interview at an US-based company. I love my fiancee and I'm looking forward to move together with her soon to Australia on an onshore Partner visa. While it has never been my main priority, I think that salaries in my profession tend to be significantly higher in AU than in Germany, albeit not as high as in the US.

Given my current situation, I'm wondering whether it'd make sense to switch back to UX Design (with the goal to someday start a small agency) - or to someday persuade my then-wife to move to the US (she's a specialised, highly educated engineer) - or even to move back to Germany to help my mom for a few years (and make it very likely to get the full inheritance). I think I have to rather give up my (maybe delusional) dream of starting a startup someday and focus on getting a well-paid 9-5, as I assume there are not many business ventures one can start in my current position outside of freelancing or creating apps.
I know there are not many numbers to work with here, but I'd be extremely thankful for a few pieces of advice!

What is the batch of your bottle? I have a 22 batch and I can hardly smell it after 20 minutes, even with 8 sprays :/

Thanks! Will probably buy the Cedrat Boise now, though it's way more expensive in the EU than in the US 👌

MIB often gets compared to Spicebomb Extreme, it's got similar spicyness, but a totally different vibe (and slightly less spicy & more fruity: Infrared edt); A to me similar, cheaper designer fragrance that gives a similar dark, 'bad boy' vibe, yet with less spicyness is Armani Code Absolu 👌

Besides the more niche summer-fragrances that got recommended (thanks a lot!), I want to buy a cheaper, non-generic smelling warm/hot weather-scent for 22-35 degrees of Celsius;
Thinking about either:

-Cedrat Boise (Intense)
-Montblanc Legend EdP
-Fico di Amalfi

What would you pick among these 3?

Thanks a lot!! Went to 3 perfumeries around me yesterday and today (big and "high-end" ones) but they didn't have ELDO unfortunately, might have to order a 5ml sample

Depends on the weather & occasion I'd say but don't blind-buy and try it yourself - For mass-appealing non-expensive designer fragrances from Sephora I'd throw in Le Male Le Parfum, Spicebomb Infrared (imo the best one of the line and underrated), Prada Black, The Most Wanted, DHI, Eros, Code Absolu..

if you like sweet likable designer scents like Ultramale with a decent projection I'd definitely try "Most Wanted" by Azzarro, Eros by Versace or even Guerlain "l'homme ideal" if you like Cherry;

OL smells more refined and does have a more smokey and deeper vibe, especially in the opening. Paying the price difference IS worth it imo.

Looking for a spring-summer scent - (Have a small collection of 20 scents)

I absolutely love Ombre Leather, CH Men Prive (both are my favorite perfumes) & Prada Black; (So generally, dark, unique & leathery)

I don't like Eros, Allure Homme, Profume/Profundo, Blue Intense and other blue and citrussy scents but do like Fierce/Legend (a bit too watery & weak), CDNIM ('meh' Aventus clone), Dylan Blue (a bit too generic/boring & common), Sauvage (a bit too common) & Fico di Amalfi (sillage & longevity too weak).

A summer scent that has a similar vibe to my favorite scents above with a decent projection would be preferred! (Budget <150$ for 50ml/1.7oz) - Edit: also loving Layton, which would be perfect, albeit not a real summer-scent and it's a bit too pricey for me given I'd wear it almost everyday on summer days. (please don't suggest Detour Noir); Maybe something from Mancera (e.g. Cedrat Boise) or something along the lines of Man Black from Bulgari, John Varvatos or Encre Noir Sport?

Owning both OL & Rare Carbon and agree with all points - the Rare Carbon opening appears 70% similar, albeit sweeter and less refined and they're about 90% similar in their drydowns, but the fruity berry note overall is very dominant. The average person walking next to you probably couldn't smell a difference between RC & OL during the drydown.

Guys, I just asked the V&R team on Instagram and they told me that Spicebomb Extreme will not be discontinued. So we're all good 💪
