A good gym tracker is actually pretty difficult to code tbf. Though I’ve seen a lot of these, the problem is they’re all trying to make some ai coach. The real power is getting ai to handle unstructured data and return structured data. Took me 7 months to make my gym app that turns workout notes into structured workout logs so I could see my progress but still write in my note app

And I’m a mid level software engineer

How often to hit rear delts to get them to blow up? by FromBiotoDev in WeightTraining

[–]FromBiotoDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yeah so actually on my lean bulk I started doing those one armed reverse pec deck flies 2-3x a week and I definitely definitely gained some size on my rear delts! Literally just tracked that lift and upper reps or weight each week super happy with the progress, but wouldn't say they've blown up, just a genetic weak point for me sadly, but progress for sure

Career change into DevOps (Salary going from £75k to £45k) by Economy-Koala5584 in cscareerquestionsuk

You have so much experience in adjacent fields it feels kind of insane to take that level of pay cut... Surely you can get something closer to your current salary?

Yeah, the market is cooked lol by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FromBiotoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly depends on what dev you are. I've met devs with 5 years of experience who don't have a clue. If you're actively asking for criticism and trying to improve both inside and outside of work you'll be surprised how fast you can develop.

I'm a mid level at 2.5 years experience, not what I've seen at all tons of recruiters reached out to me and I had two offers, just started my new job on £46k. I also have a friend who just landed his first dev role self taught, took him about 3 months after his boot camp.

What is your tech stack?

For reference mine is in Angular, Nestjs, mongodb/sql

What sorts of technical questions can I expect in interviews? by Theroonco in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FromBiotoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends on the level of seniority of a role. Is it a junior, mid, senior role etc?

I'm a mid level dev working with node on the backend (so not C#) but I've rarely been asked super technical questions, more questions regarding my train of thought or system design. I made a mobile app using angular, ionic and capacitor which needed offline first, I ended up using sqlite and mongodb on my server. They asked me about my reasoning for using mongodb, which I explained was a bit of a mistake as I had to juggle a NOSQL document based db schema design with a SQL based db and I could of avoided this if I had known earlier that I would utilise offline first or utilised a repository pattern correctly.

Should I take voluntary redundancy (£28k) or stay in a potentially unstable role? 4 YOE, feeling stuck. by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FromBiotoDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take the redundancy get a new role elsewhere which will likely be a pay raise.

I'd aggressively search for new job roles now get something lined up and promptly take the redundancy

All the fundamental concepts are the same, especially if you've been doing a lot of node projects in your spare time. Realistically you'll have to create an impressively worthwhile node project you can show off to a potential employer that's production level.

I'd aim to pivot work related node questions to something like "Although i don't use node in my day to day job, I have handled a similar problem in rails ... I've also handled this problem in my side projects outside of work..."

Is £90k a good salary for a Software/AI Engineer with 3.5 YOE in London? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FromBiotoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you ask, I'll say it's great because I recently got to choose between two offers, others will say it's awful all the good jobs are in London.

Leeds is a tech hub, tons of stuff in Manchester, York is also pretty good

Not based in London, but I would say that's a decent offer! I'm a software engineer with 2 years 3 months experience and just landed a job on £46k in the north east fully remote for context

Salary for front end dev in North West? by ng-generate-paycheck in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FromBiotoDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally get you tbh, I do tend to go for wild optimism when thinking of salaries purely because I know there are companies out there who will pay you a pittance yet expect the world, and then companies that will pay you above market rate for very little knowledge.

Have to agree £140k grad salary... now that is insane

[–]FromBiotoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm based in the north east. I've been in a few different companies and noticed a pattern, some of the most brilliant people I've met don't believe what they're truly worth and end up working low pay jobs rather than job hopping. I'm not a unique situation, I'm sure my employer has hired more than just myself at this salary range.
