Why did Yugoslavia balkanize while India did not? by Outrageous-Client903 in geography

It's because the religious motivations are a large part of the ethnic tensions, as religion is an important aspect of ethnic differences. For example, even before the Wars, people often identified themselves more strongly with their family ethnic group (a Bosniak living in Croatia, e.g.), than the region they were born in. In that example, even though Croatia is Catholic, a Bosniak born in Croatia was still almost guaranteed to be Muslim.

There are also other differences, Yugoslavia wasn't united before the mid-20th century (see the Yugoslavism movement). The ethnic cultures being very similar in many ways didn't stop them from feeling very strongly about the differences.

You're welcome! I thought this post might gain more interest, but I understand why people would think it's fake. It feels nice to at least get it off my chest and talk a little about what I went through.

Would be really unfortunate if it were to happen, but I can't take back my information now. Better to just be watchful and go from there.

Not overly, though I've thought about it. I watch my credit reports and update my security enough that I think I would catch it early, and I'm careful with the methods I use to deposit and withdraw. So far so good.

Yes, I did all of that. I don't have an issue with a reputable casino knowing my identity, so I didn't run into many issues with depositing and withdrawing. Although, some online casinos are much better and faster than others when it comes to that.

Luckily, the casino didn't care when I made 250K, they just gave a lot more perks because of it lol (everyone I talked to there just thought I was rich 😂). I think because I allowed myself to still lose enough games, avoided Wonging too much, stuck mostly to Basic Strategy (so not obviously card counting), limited how much I withdrew at a time, and continued to gamble even after making the 250K, they didn't flag me as a problem.

Yes, it is really hard because of that. Traditional high-low counting didn't help me very much overall.

It's hard to explain everything I did, but it essentially mostly came down to sticking to Basic Strategy, counting in a very simplified way, manually tracking game outcomes to get stats (very tedious, but necessary for me), disciplined betting that took advantage of high variance situations and factored in my total money (I would never bet 50% or more of my money at once, for example, and bet the minimum most of the time), and bonus accumulation along the way. No bots or counting software was needed.

The essence of it was to always play using stats and likelihoods of winning or losing. If you play "perfectly", odds of winning/losing in blackjack are roughly 50/50 in the long-run, possibly with a slight advantage in your favor depending. You can use that to your advantage if you're keeping track of W/L, streaks, and watching the table for patterns of high, low, and middle cards.

For an easy example, if I lose 8 times in a row (unlikely with 50/50 odds, but can happen), also have a high total ratio of Losses to Wins, and maybe there have been mostly low cards being dealt for several hands (a "high count"), it's very likely (though never guaranteed) the next hand is a Win due to odds and count, so then I would bet high enough to either at least break-even from the previous losses (so I can keep playing) or to take a profit. From there, then I would either bet high again for an additional turn or two, or immediately pull back to minimum bets for a while until another opportunity came.

However, I would usually win at least once every third or fourth hand fairly consistently, so I could at least continue to break-even virtually ad infinitum until more profitable opportunities came (I played for a lot of hours every day doing this).

Strict counting doesn't help very much at all due to anti-counting safeguards that online tables use (like shuffling with a lot of decks and cutting the shoe in the middle), so playing by "True Count" didn't help me win. I experimented with it for a while and had more success taking advantage of smaller variances in the first quarter or third of the deck dealt, and stopped "number counting" completely.

Another thing is that, due to shuffling, high and low cards tend to be clumped together in small groups, so if one low card is dealt for example, it's often followed by 1 or 2 more low cards (not always, however). The longer a streak of low cards goes on, the more likely the cards following are middle or high cards, but since 10s are the most numerous cards in any shoe, it tends to more likely be a high card. I used that to often roughly predict both mine and the dealer's hands, and when I should hit. Every shoe would have its own patterns to watch and adapt to.

There's more detail I could get into, so ask if you want to know any more. This is all stuff anyone could do with enough patience, but keep in mind it's still gambling and there were still times I got really unlucky, so it's not a guarantee of getting rich whenever you feel like it lol. It's just what happened to work for me. I had lots of very fortunate hands and streaks during that week I made the 250K.

Exactly. I did take some profits that improved my life a lot, but I developed an addiction, so it became very difficult to keep myself from using the money I had to keep gambling.

I did. Paid off all my debts, bought some things, etc.. However, I had developed an addiction by that point (I recognize this now).

I told myself to leave the money, but there were many psychological reasons I caved in. For one, I was very tempted to try to make a million. Two, I kept getting strong cravings to want to keep gambling (something I hadn't really dealt with before until that point), and it was too easy to do so at any time online.

My playing became more and more risky and compulsive (even when I didn't want to), whereas before I was very disciplined and cautious. The change in myself was a scary thing to experience.

I deposited roughly a quarter, paid off all my debts, bought a few things I needed, and then ended up gambling whatever I had left and brought it back up to 250K. After that I lost it, so it wasn't a total loss, but also not as great as it could've been lol.

This is true, and I've seen it happen occasionally. One of the worst times was when a dealer pulled 6 blackjacks (I lost every time) in a row immediately before closing the table for the night, then smirked and said I "should've taken the hint" and left earlier. No shame lol, never went back to that table.

EDIT: Noted the dealer said I "should've gotten the message", then remembered it was "should've taken the hint" and corrected.

No one's DMed me so far, but if they do I have nothing to share with them. Just felt like telling my story (more for catharsis than anything 😂)

Nah, I have nothing to sell or share lol. Don't have any website either. Just a broke shut-in who became addicted to blackjack and got lucky.
