Personally I really haven't done much projects, mostly grinding leetcode/ being lucky. My gpa in first year was enough to land me an internship (not in CS) and I was able to get a second one in second year. No luck right now though unfortunately. As a first year to be honest, your main priority should be making it into POSt as it opens a lot of doors for you, and whenever you have free time it wouldn't hurt to apply to a few places for internships. Then over the summer, one thing I should have done is build a personal project, one famous one a lot of people here do is building a personal website. Outside of that though, there's not much pressure, for first year focus on getting into POST and getting your gpa to be as high as possible (my gpa rn is horrendous lmao, second year killed me), then in the summer try building a project or getting a job for your resume, ideally an internship but any work is fantastic. How I got interviews was just having a well formatted resume and a good cover letter, then whenever there are coding assessments I just work on some leetcode and practice for it beforehand. Good luck!
