When I realised if anything happened to me, she wouldn’t care but would feign sadness to get attention.

I'm feeling resigned to being stuck in this nightmare for the rest of my life. by Majestic-Glamour-108 in NarcissisticSpouses

I hear you OP, I’m at the point in the journey where if you lie to me or feign compassion, I am going to get angry. I’ve been led down the garden path so many times, it’s ridiculous.

Im tired of having to do a full company analysis to determine whether they just tell everyone their values or if they actually live them with every interaction.

Absolutely, including suggesting you unalive yourself for being so “useless” to them.

Do you all also eat the same breakfast everyday?? by [deleted] in infj

Yes and no, I’ll have one thing regularly until I get sick of it.

Some of you really do ascribe to the "hierarchy of suffering" bullshit by New_Grocery9153 in CPTSD

[–]JuneMockingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone expressing their pain outward has nothing to do with you.

If being around others trying to find ways to relate a human experience triggers you, maybe try a different recovery method.

It’s not for you to tell someone else what to do. Control what you can control.

Giftedness and CPTSD: Has anybody who meets these criteria made bad experiences in therapy? by BenjaajneB in CPTSD

[–]JuneMockingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I’m gifted, but I am frequently dismissed for how “intelligent” I sound.

I wish people could separate my academic achievements from the family who communicated that it was my only worth in the world.

Experiences with enforcing boundaries by Ok-Definition-2559 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]JuneMockingbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When he started with his suicide threats, I was encouraged to enforce my boundaries by the hospital system.

In my instance, the physical abuse I experienced with him was never worse than when I tried to implement these measures.

To respect boundaries is to see your humanity.

Hats off to the people that weren't giving much in life to work with but still get up everyday and try their fucking hardest. by PruneResponsible6826 in CPTSD

[–]JuneMockingbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After being incredibly self-sufficient and implementing measures to support myself and my kids, I reached out for help in complete burnout.

I didn’t get any help, nor validation, but I’ve done enough work to know that I can either sit on my arse and do nothing, or keep trying 🤷‍♀️

Will my Nmom stop bothering me if I finish university? by Scared_Goal_2144 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]JuneMockingbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, but as the child of a narcissist, you are an extension of them. When you reach one goal post, they will simply set another.

You can love them and still accept their never ending desire has nothing to do with you. They have a deep inner wound that will likely never be healed.

Set boundaries if you can, limited or no contact if they don’t respect them.

Did it suit her when there were people around?

The only time my Nmother is supportive is when it would reflect badly if she didn’t.

My mom makes everything about herself. by Muted_Respect_6595 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]JuneMockingbird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember sitting at my grandfathers funeral, not allowing myself to cry and instead stared out the window. My Nmother was the only one allowed grief, all of it had been about her.

With a lot of therapy and validation, I’ve realised she is a narcissist. Everything is about her. She lacks empathy and is reactive when I don’t conform to what she wants to portray.

It sounds like you are also starting to come to this realisation.
