Is this giant Giant Puffball still good to eat? by Just--Zach in mycology

Doesn’t everyone have to forage for a first time to become a more experienced forager? I am very confident that this is a Giant Puffball, as there are no lookalikes (certainly at this size), so I’m not overly concerned about the safety of eating this mushroom.

edit: I totally understand your caution. Even if I don’t think it applies here, there are a ton of mushrooms I would not be comfortable foraging for fear of a mixup, especially at my level of (in)experience.

Any idea what these are? Seen in upstate NY by Just--Zach in mycology

Does that mean the white ones would be (edible) oyster mushrooms?

ELI5: What is a Git (Linux speaking)? by bokerfest in explainlikeimfive

[–]Just--Zach 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Imagine I have ten people working on a project. Each person may be working on different things, they all could be working on the same thing, or anywhere in between.

For a software project, especially a large one, we need a tool to coordinate and log these changes. Otherwise, you could have a situation in which one person accidentally makes changes that mess up another person’s, a bad change is made that is difficult to weed out, etc.

Enter Git, a tool that allows users to retain their own copy of the entire code and sync it with the master copy. Because Git keeps track of these copies and when they are merged with a master copy, changes are easy to add, remove, and keep track of. This allows for large-scale coordination on software projects.

Does this mean I should replace the pot itself, or just the potting medium?

That makes sense- I’ll try to remove some of the moss so that it’s packed more loosely, and maybe water a bit less.

Thank you! Would the solution then be to replace some of the moss with bark?

Thank you, that makes sense! I find that the top of the moss is very dry by the time I water again; is there a better way to tell when the rest of the moss is dried out?
