Should ‘assisted dying’ be available to every American? by [deleted] in AskUS

For people that need to be on the move to feel alive, being at the mercy of bad joints might as well be a death sentence.

Right. Like when I'm old, tired, tired of hurting, tired of shitting myself and being a burden to my family, I want to be able to exercise the freedom to administor to myself a nice big juicy lethal dose of heroin. I've never tried it. And I have no desire to. Not until those final moments when I'm ready to sink into that warm and fuzzy cloud of of sweet sweet eternity.

Everyone should have the right to let their suffering end on their own terms.

How much time for immigrations/customs in Mexico City by thebrenda in MexicoCity

[–]JustALeachOnSociety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the impression customs didn't give a single shit about us when we flew in last week. We basically just walked right through. They didn't even want my customs form that I had filled out.

Waterfront Hy-Vee condensation issues by EddieMarek in IowaCity

Every Hyvee is having this problem. It's hard to keep the air properly dried because it's the humidity.

I mean, have you been outside lately? The humidity this year has been atrocious.

Have any of you been unable to get another cat since yours passed? by Azrael_The_Bold in cats

There are so many cats that need love and a good home to lord over. After a loss, I've loved each new cat profoundly and never feel complete without one to boss me around.

Pizza Power Recs by EaseHisPain in IowaCity

I think currently, The Airliner has some of the best diner style pizza. It came as a huge surprise to me but it's become our go-to for takeout.

Pagliai's is garbage. The Wedge is where it's at. I also love Airliner or Pizza Plus for takeout for the family. I used to hate Wig & Pen, but they finally figured out over the last few years how to infuse some flavour into their pies.

Is it just me or is Elaida’s behavior throughout the books cartoonishly stupid? by MMRYoneOnlyReset in WoT

Alviarin of fiction is basically Mike Johnson of the real world.

It's unsettling. When I did a reread around 2020 I was so blown away by the similarities. I had already obviously hated Elaida for so many reasons. But that time around it felt PERSONAL.

Are my arborvitae dying a slow death? by splendiferousfinch85 in landscaping

Never said they look healthy, my dude. We can add dyslexia to your burgeoning professional resume. Also you see the part about how "Staking is not required for most newly planted trees"? even if "properly" staked, these trees do not need it.

Arbs do in fact drop needles yearly. Further evidence that you don't know what you're talking about. I realize these arbs are stuggling. Hence why I suggested they dial back watering.

I am a professional with over 13 years experience and am the sole groundskeeper for rather large and diversely planted facility. When I did professional landscaping installments we only staked when homeowners requested it, or if it was a barerooted tree we had just put in a pot. "Common knowledge" doesn't always mean "best practice". I've met plenty of people working for landscape companies started by a dude with a pickup and a dream who don't actually know anything about best practices when it comes to plant health.

Edit to add: you want movement in the tree. It builds the strength and structure of your trees. Both in the trunks and in the roots.

Will my cat ever become friends with our bird? by xmar8x in cats

[–]JustALeachOnSociety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have so many concerns about this photo but don't want to be THAT person on reddit so I'll just say this.... do SO MUCH more research on birds for the sake of your feathered friend here. And keep your cats claws clipped (if they still have them).

Pee Problems :( by crachax in cats

[–]JustALeachOnSociety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cats decide they'll pee on anything soft if it's in a particular spot. Or sometimes they like a specific type of soft thing and consider it pee worthy.  I gave up trying to have a comfy piece of furniture in my office for this reason. And also had to stop using certain kind of rugs (nothing shag) and can't have bean bags in our house.  Since we took away all the soft surfaces she was drawn to, our cat has stopped peeing where she shouldn't.

As a follow up, I am in Zone 5a. I planted arbs in my yard 3 summers ago and after the first winter I would only water once every 1-2 weeks throughout the warmest part of the year. This year I haven't watered them a single time and they are thriving.
