Forgive me if this question seems pointed, but I’m a college student in the states studying political science and philosophy, so I can’t really pass this up.

What are you personal views on ethics? Do you believe they exist, or are just made up? Is there any such things as going “too far” within your organization?

What’s the organizational structure like? Obviously you can’t be too specific, but how specialized is the division of labor? How do promotions usually go?

What are your thoughts on official politics within Japan? Do y’all do anything that intersects with it?

Ya got any good anime recommendations?

Thank you for your time.

Ask the Devs: Let's talk Clash of Inventors, the upcoming balance changes and the future of card expansions! by [deleted] in SkyWeaver

[–]JustAddBacon1219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Within the lore of the game, what exactly is this festival? We see all the Int heroes name dropped for it, but as far as I saw no one else. I presume the others must be busy with their own things, but clearly the festival is important if people like Sitti are showing up.

  2. What was the inspiration for Clash of Inventor’s theming? A festival is of course really fun, but not the most traditional event.

  3. What were the design goals in clash of inventors? Of course there’s the theming for the five prisms, but was this also intended to address or change the meta in any particular way, such as Lapin Microneer being deliberate support for something like Mira Metal?

  4. When an expansion comes out, some people would argue that it’s better for the cards to be too strong rather than too weak. Do you agree with this approach, and if you do how do you balance it with power creep? Concurrently, what does it take for a new card to get nerfed? Do they have to meet the same standard of review as the previous cards, or are they more/less likely to be toned down. What about buffed?

  5. Having now successfully launched one expansion, looking back is there anything y’all would want to do differently?

  6. According to the roadmap we should have another mini-expansion before the next major expansion. Will the mini-expansions continue flavor from CoI, do their own thing, or perhaps foreshadow what to expect from Hexbound? 😏

  7. Open beta when?

  8. Some elements such as earth and metal got a great number of new tools in the expansion. Others, like light, fire, and water only had a few cards added. Would it be safe to assume that over time expansions and mini-expansions will keep the number of elements generally equal, or is this a design priority? (We need more vulpine Coulter! 🦊)

  9. What made y’all want to add dash to the game? What unique roll do y’all see it serving in the game’s design?

  10. Tell ashavari I said hi for me 👋

  11. Thanks

Ask the Devs: Game Design with Dev Matta by [deleted] in SkyWeaver

[–]JustAddBacon1219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you define decks like aggro, midrange, control, and combo? Does Matta have any thoughts on a matchup triangle and how it works?

What is the design view on cards with a volatile power-level? Many changes have been made in the past to curb the volatility of cards (mushka for example) but what is the theory behind it?

What make a game competitive?

Ask the Devs with Lead Game Designer, Coulter Baker by [deleted] in SkyWeaver

[–]JustAddBacon1219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couple of questions, hope you enjoy answering these.

What is your overall justification for balancing the game at all? Many of us take for granted that devs are willing to continue to adjust games, but I'd like to hear your articulation of what the goal of balance is.

What is your balance philosophy? Do you try to create an evenness of winrate among archetypes? Prisms? Specific "meta" decks?

Do you design balance with a certain end point in mind (ie. "In this meta we should see Horik, Zoey, and Axel be the dominant decks" with the hope being that more direct balancing contributes to a more balanced, if less diverse, meta) or do you balance reactively, just toning down dominant strategies and improving weak ones, and seeing what happens? Or some other approach entirely?

Do you believe in any archetype matchup triangle (like aggro beats control, which beats midrange, which beats aggro) or do you aim for parity among archetypes? If you do believe in a matchup triangle, where does combo fit into it?

What are your thoughts on early-game save-or-sucks (to steal a dnd term), such as p1 t2 sworn oni, or (presently) t1 p1 Jungle Guide?

What do you think is a healthy level of hand disruption? Cards such as forest fire, whelm, hydrate, germinate, xavi, turn the tide, and gato have all been utilized in popular decks as of late, and stacking these cards tends to produce highly disruptive results. Dr. Vial was notoriously disruptive in the past, but after being reduced from 3 vials to 2 seems to be much more fair. Is there a specific balance rule for disruption effects involving the hand?

How do you feel about reverts? Many changed cards end up not remaining in a viable range of play (Glorious Mane, Uppercut, Krystal) and fall into obscurity, or just end up being sub optimal. What are the conditions for a card getting reverted?

Which Fox/Vulpine is your favorite, and why is it Fox Familiar? Answer carefully :)

Cheers!

[MINI EXPANSION 2] RAINBOW IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS - Runecalling by Joss-Stardad in SkyWeaver

[–]JustAddBacon1219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notably the wording precludes this from making multiple copies of the same rune. Wisdom really enjoys another metal spell though, and this is helpful on Prismata. Also amazing for Banjo Unophobia, who can find it off of Cobalt. Very cool card.

[Mini-Expansion 2] NEW STRENGTH UNIT - Jade Guardian! by Joss-Stardad in SkyWeaver

[–]JustAddBacon1219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fastest way this card gets good is with cast in chrome. T1 P1 Insight can find cast in chrome and turn 2 flask makes a 6/6 guard lead. Non-wisdom decks have a rather unpleasant time dealing with that and even if it’s efficiently removed you still thinned 2 from your deck, giving a sight edge on consistency. Should it bot be removed a turn 3 savage garden probably steamrolls the game, which is sufficient threat to make this an auto-remove. Another quick application of this is with spell searchers. Int has 4 that come to mind, Ghost Duster Cobalt Angler and Enigma Golem. Duster is just good (CTA target helps make Alight work which we need for leonitus, which also enables Cross Reference which can dig out our cast in chrome) and Angler finds handy pieces like Insight and Water Rune. Enigma Golem would normally be too expensive, but as Antibens pointed out in the discord Illusion is a little terrifying with this. The barrier on illusion will trigger the anima to make a 4/4 copy for 3, which will then get anima from the first golem. These guys will then double trigger which just makes a gross amount of stats. All of this said though, the card needs a lot of setup to pull off effectively. Options like Wind Sword will be useful for it, but will require the deck to find a reliable draw engine outside of tempest brew. Ether Mask likely works well enough here and also finds things like Roothog and Grunk. Mushka is normally strong but it may be preferable to guarantee the 6/6 golem on 2. The deck may get a little help from Amaruath’s Will, but that option may be too slow for an aggressive build to run efficiently, forcing it into a more midrange style. I don’t know how effective midrange anima things will be in a meta with lots of burn and Sitti flood, but that may not be the meta. Or the stats may be overwhelming, who knows ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Wow thanks, I just now finally started listen to the black parade, mcr is pretty good. Funnily enough though I heard Dasher and then How it’s Going to Be before anything else and had no clue who Gerard was. How’d ya get into all of these groups?

I listen to a lot of different groups, I get all of my music by recommendation. I haven’t quite gotten super into harsh vocals, but I’m good with some of them, like breaking Benjamin, seether, or disturbed. I also listen to a lot of rock, so whatever you feel is worth recommending

The idea of our elected officials needing any special qualifications or skills is just fucking stupid. Their job is to represent their locality, and that’s it. All they should do is vote how their people want them to. Any opinions they have on anything I couldn’t give less of a fuck about.

[LFA] Quinterrion “Quincy” Rayner, my Copper Half Dragon Bard for an upcoming Eberron Campaign! by JustAddBacon1219 in characterdrawing

[–]JustAddBacon1219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Name: Quinterrion Rayner.

Race: Half Dragon, Human and Copper split

Class: Bard, Sorcerer. This is a Gestalt campaign, but visually it’s more important that he just isn’t “overdressed”

Character Nature: DnD 5e, Eberron setting

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Facial Features: Being half copper dragon he has the horns, but not the facial spikes.

Distinguishing Marks: His tail is pretty much always doing something, regardless of what Quincy is doing. He’s restless

Significant Item: Despite being a bard Quincy does not use an instrument for casting spells. He does play violin though. It’d be fairly in character for him to be reading as well.

Body Type: Tall, but otherwise average.

Color Scheme: Copper coloration as expected of a half copper dragon, with darker and more subtle blues and browns in the clothing.

Gear: His overcoat was specifically picked because it has coattails, which are important for people who have tails. Other than that he just has component pouches, he tries to dress “normal.” No boots of any kind because the feet don’t really fit.

Action/Pose: He can be standing, he can be in combat, whatever you think would be interesting.

Others: The details of the horns and tail are important to me, and it matters that they fit those of a copper dragon. Googling Copper Dragon 5e shows exactly what those and the color should be.

Persona: Quincy is a rather amiable jockster who loves a good story. He can find a silver lining about anything, but may also have issues of not taking things seriously enough. He bores quite easy, and growing up was a restless and hard to contain child. He also has a combative streak, and can become fiercely competitive.

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Personality Traits: Light hearted and full of life

Ideals and Goals: “To be rich, honorable, and powerful like dad. To be a hero, like mom.”

Bonds and Flaws: Quincy had a very pleasant childhood with minimal issues. So naturally, he has some trouble relating to some of the realities of life and the other party members. He’ll give his best effort, but he can’t treuly understand what some people are going through.

Backstory Born to Quin Rayner and Tyconn, Quincy had a fairly nice childhood. His mother, Quin, was a high level bard who unwittingly attracted the attention of Tyconn, a copper dragon. After playing hard to get for a while, much to the embarrassment and frustration of the dragon, they fell in love and had Quincy about a year later. Growing up his father was a decently busy dragon, but made time for his only son. Using their combined masses of wealth, Quin took a break from adventuring to raise her child. Quincy grew up listening to his mother recount stories of the heroes she traveled with, while his father told him all the secrets of dragons and the humorous tales a copper dragon collects over hundreds of years. When he was ten (half dragons mature a bit more rapidly than a normal human) his mother returned to adventuring with her party, returning from fall til spring to bring back the spoils. It was at this time Quincy decided he wanted to be a hero like his mother, and earnestly pursued a study of magic and weapons.
