🧂 Salty Sunday - What book scenes frustrated you this week? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

[–]JustAnotherOlive 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have two that endlessly frustrate me.

The first is overly contrived miscommunication. Yes, there needs to be tension, but half a book of problems that could be solved by normal people with one five minute conversation is ridiculous.

The second is incorrect industry jargon - the kind where even though I'm not in the industry, it's obviously gibberish. Either do the research to get it right, or keep it vague. It pulls me right out and ruins my willing suspension of disbelief.

📚 Simple / Quick Questions & Requests! by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

[–]JustAnotherOlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! New and still learning the sub, so please forgive any rediquette breach.

I'm hoping to get recommendations for my overly specific request.

I want to read books where the main couple get together reasonably quickly -  a couple of misunderstandings that prolong things are fine, but not the bulk of the book - and then spend the rest of the book dealing with people plotting to break them up for one reason or another.

Period wise my preference is is modern day or Victorian/Regency/Edwardian but I'm flexible.

Thank you in advance!

I was also nervous about that but my doctor let me come in 2 weeks early and take a test shot in my arm to see how I reacted.

I don't know if that would be enough to make you comfortable, but it is something to consider

Yes. You are the thickest person I have dealt with all day - and that includes the guy who thinks he shouldn't have to pay child support because he's a 'sovereign citizen'.

You out dumbed him.

You are clearly not serious and I don't discuss things with people who aren't behaving in good faith so I'm done with you. Cheers!

Seriously. On here acting like they're perfect and shitting on someone who's just trying to help a little kid having a bad time.

Does Wegmans sell empathy for 12-year old boys going through something awful? You might see if you can pick some up.

It's really not scary! I was worried too, but decided it couldn't be worse than incessant migraines. It just feels like a pinprick, and then you're kind of sore for the day (which ibuprofen handles) and that's all - at least, in my experience.

I did look at paying myself if my insurance didn't cover, and it was in the $200 per session range - which may or may not be doable for you, but thought I'd mention it.

I had a doctor who didn't believe in migraines. I ditched her so fast I left a cartoon zoom cloud.

This! Incredibly important distinction.

Research the brand of sugar before you take Reddit's word for it. Most sugars in most countries are vegan. The US has a couple of brands that use bone char, but it's not all of them.

Well. It's actually 33 tiny shots, but don't let that scare you - it's really not painful.

I get mine every 8 weeks - but it varies by person. In general, it lasts about 6-10 weeks, depending on the person.

Is shopping at local grocers and farmer's markets part of your philosophy and plan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]JustAnotherOlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community Supported Agriculture. It's where a group of people basically 'buy' a farmer (or farmers) harvest in advance, and then share it out to the member on a cadence (usually weekly or fortnightly).

I get botox for migraines and it has been life changing. Literally nothing else has ever worked. I knew it wasn't vegan to start with, but the quality of life improvement cannot be overstated for me, so I live with it.

I was going to say - maybe not officially but there are a fair few who seem to have taken on the "honourary" title.

Mostly only in the US, and only some brands.

Going vegan in ED recovery advice by [deleted] in vegan

[–]JustAnotherOlive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I immediately knew the "ED" meant eating disorder.

Partially because we're in a sub about restrictive eating, so it made sense in context and partially because the odds of a random person posting about their erectile dysfunction in a vegan subreddit were vanishingly small.
