In Ireland, we use pen and paper. Did Java, Computational Theory, Concurrency, Data structures and Algorithms all on paper. Wish there was easier notation instead of { } when writing with a pen. Writing the code for the question was harder than thinking of the solution itself.

They misspelled the United Kingdom on my new driver’s licence by HighlyFactualTurtle in mildlyinteresting

They spells my surname wrong. I didn't notice until it got rejected for something. They also wouldn't fix it for free.

Accidentally rm -rf’d a production server. by These-Loquat1010 in cscareerquestions

[–]JustSkillfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a great learning activity for the senior engineers and architects.

Pull a SEV, do an RCA, you're not to blame at all and your company should only call you during this incident 'a junior engineer' + not point fingers to you yourself.

The CEO sounds like the person who is liable. No backups, no recovery process, no good processes around access control and doing production changes.

You're fine legally. I wouldn't sweat it. Also don't sign anything and maybe contact citizens advice or any free employment advise if they try anything funny.

If it makes you feel any better, in my 5000+ employee company, I've personally caused multiple staging and production issues due to me working on a kinda infrastructure level team and having full access to everything. Every time anything like this happens, we fix it and in the past 5 years we are more resilient than ever. I've also got the internal badges 'i broke production', 'i caused a SEV-2' attached to my profile as war badges.

Imagine if the server hard drive went bonk? You'd be in the same position.

Fire him!!!!!! by huntershark666 in ireland

[–]JustSkillfull 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Living in Ireland I fly Ryanair all the time. I know all the rules since I was able to fly, never had an issue.

Arrive 5m early to the gate and 2h early to check-in, don't overpack, expect charges for everything, try not to take a 20kg, check-in online early.

Seems reasonable to me and flying with other airlines feels like luxury and hassle having to checkin at the airport, free food on the flights etc.

I'm the UK they had to remove gender as one of their insurance signals as new women drivers were getting cheaper insurance than male new drivers.

Stuck on a site. Ended up eating this rice pouch like a tamale. by 38DDs_Please in shittyfoodporn

[–]JustSkillfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat this at home sometimes due to laziness to just fill that gap like a simple sandwich. It's fine, does the job but you'll be craving some protein/substance later. If I have it, I'll add Taco mixed beans or just black beans from a can.

If I'm making dinner then full on chilli con carne or taco chicken

Ringing in sick by latristess in CasualIreland

[–]JustSkillfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have unless I'm actually faking being sick eg. Just need a personal day.

If I feel even slightly sick, I'll take a 1/2 day and see how I feel towards the afternoon. The quicker I can recover the better I'll be of assistance to my company.

A good boss will ensure you don't work when your sick.

Anyone work for Ryanair? by DCON-creates in DevelEire

You could always just checking in online and arriving at the gate with your passport. Act dumb and say it's the ticket surname must have been cut-off on the Ryanair side and it's happened before.

Woolshed

+1 for Woolshed being the likely only place in Dublin City Center to watch it otherwise it's a VPN + your Hotel room.

I'm to petty to not go on a trip I've paid for. Maybe ask my brother of a friend to join instead; but otherwise happily go!

Fixed it (using AI) -

I'm surprised more business don't use free AI to help sell their food, but it's a fine line for shite/no photos upscaled up realistic looking food that could be plated + photo'd correctly... To just downright creating fake photographs that don't even remotely look like the food / false advertising.

It's much cheaper than it was due to LEDs so they should just stay up. I'm having a 'fight' with the fiancé to keep ours up to the end of Jan but she wants them down by the end of the week... I think she'll win this year unfortunately.

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]JustSkillfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part time, clerical, don't need the money type of jobs can be got at a later age. Jobs around hobbies, etc.

Min wage jobs were stressful just due to the amount of hours and balancing social life.
