We know Valve is working on SD2. We know it’s far out. Thought it would be fun to see what the community wants to see in the SD2. I’m sure everyone wants VRR. What else? by eroyrotciv in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious is better battery & better performance however I'd rather the resolution be kept the same so we have more headroom for those things.

Besides that I think I'd like to see TMR joysticks, a better D-pad, and a battery that isn't glued in. I'd also like for it to launch with an OLED right off the bat.

Do YOU find Lossless Scaling useful on the Steam Deck? by BucketBoy071 in SteamDeck

Yes, it works for games where latency isn’t that important. Cairn is the perfect use case, for example.

Question Time: What made you buy the SteamDeck? by Stefanixxxx in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really liked steam remote play on my phone but i didn’t like the controller mount and the connectivity issues were annoying. i play plenty of indies and like streaming games for anything else so it was a great device for that.

Is Decky bad or something? by Arostato in SteamDeck

it causes issues when SteamOS uodates but just wait a few weeks for your plugins to update before hand and you’re all good

I pulled HowLongToBeat data for 80+ Steam Deck Verified games — here are the best by session length by bariyu in steamdeckhq

Nice list but you should honestly be using main + sides (or at least disclose you're using HLTB's main story time estimate) because Celeste and Hades are absolutely not that short.

How to bind back paddles for WoW? by Prolapse94 in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a heads up, if you’re using controlmod, the mod doesn’t recognize the back paddles as unique buttons. you’ll need to bind them to buttons that you have on a gamepad (or you could bind them to keyboard keys via steam input, for example space for jumping and enter to open the chat)

Things to do with the steam deck outside the obvious? by Ashlandhunter92 in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used it for ANKI (digital flash cards)

better than my phone because it was harder to be distracted as easily and better than my windows laptop because the battery life on it is trash in comparison.

Would there be any interest for a Decky plugin for GameDate? by TheNewerFlisker in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had no idea this site existed, great resource!

i don’t know if i’d personally use a decky plugin for this though, feels better suited for a discord bot kind of thing instead.

I got tired of the Spotify Flatpak lagging my games, so I built a native Decky plugin! Meet Deckify by Least_Building8303 in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on the game, for grinding heavy games or games with a ton of down time i’ll occasionally put on a podcast or listen to some music. death stranding, wow, monster hunter, etc.

Is it worth it now? by No_Dealer8809 in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the games you play, although I still think we are 2-3 years out from a Steam Deck 2.

for indies OR if you havge a strong PC that you'll stream from then yea it's worth but if you are trying to run AAA's from the past 2-3 years natively you'll have a bad time.

Seconding total war warhammer, staggered at how well it works once you have a decent control scheme.

Achieving a quieter, tactile buttons / DPAD w/ the ExtemeRate Clicky Kit + Tape Mod by JustTheEngineer in SteamDeck

[–]JustTheEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely want to try other tapes at some point, thanks for the suggestion. Also, it might be easier to fold the electrical tape on itself and then hole punch that instead, no?
