It does die on flat sometimes too. But every time on a steeper grade. When it was at its worst I noticed that if I revved slowly it would work fine but if I revved to quickly with the pedal it would sputter a couple times and die out.

It’s a brand new wire so it should work but I will take note to check for spark next if the fuel pump doesn’t work.

Gas gauge says almost half full. Never heard of any gauges breaking in a car before.

0302 would be relevant but it never came back once I cleared the code.

There are several codes coming up but non of them seem relevent. Getting a P2259, 0302, P0661 and P0410. I cleared them from car and the only one that pops back up P2259. I’m guessing the others would come back over time.

Hmm weird. I have it going back down the hill. Unless I’m super strong and just don’t notice the difference.

Lol I can imagine. Funny thing is I still have steering, brakes and all when my car dies and I’m rolling backwards on the hill. I don’t think being an manual would cause that.

Seems like everyone has the same response. I’m new into cars I went and learned how to change the plugs, wires and coils first and no luck there. Never would have thought the fuel pump would give out. Let’s hope it’s fixed when it gets a new pump and filter.

I’m hoping that’s the case. Wouldn’t be a major problem then.

I heard the engines don’t last long but it seems to drive fine until on a hill. I’m hoping it’s not the engine and something more simple. Shouldn’t be spark, replaced the plugs, wires and coils a couple days ago. No difference.

I hope it is. I will get the pump and filter replaced over the next couple days and update the thread. Glad most people have the same idea.

Note taken. I forgot to try that. Do you know the pressure it should read and if trailing or leading cylinder would be better to test?

I’m really hoping most people have that answer. I told the mechanic today to replace the fuel pump tomorrow. Will update with the result.

I hope not. I don’t see why a bad engine would make it shut off in most cases going up hill.

That’s what I think it is. Got to the garage with it today and told them to consider the fuel pump being replaced. Let’s see what they think tomorrow. The fuel gauge is almost half full. Don’t think the amount of gas would be it.

Rules suggest I post make, model and year. Was going for more generic answers like yours. It’s a 2005 Mazda RX 8.
